2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Zombro was released from the hospital yesterday. I hadn't been following this after that night, but he had to undergo emergency brain surgery and he is now "transitioning to outpatient occupational and speech therapy".

I knew it was serious but didn't know it was THAT serious.
Yikes. Thanks for reporting this cmal. I hadn't seen this on the TV news.

Brisbane? Seriously? One assumes they would make use of some existing venues in Sydney and Melbourne, but still ... woof. Brisbane isn't all that big and I would assume that logistical hurdles would be significant.

CFB playoff going to 12 teams in 2024 Would mean some of the 1000 bowl games will be cut :)

Brisbane is 2.5 million folks now. 3rd largest in AUS. Maybe Sidney and Melbourne were not interested. In every AUS state or territory at least 50% of the population lives in or near the capital.

Yeah ... 2.5 million souls trapped between the mountains and the sea. Like I said ... not big. Not by Summer Olympics standards. Tokyo (13 mil), Paris (11 mil), LA (deeply under-counted at 12 mil), Brisbane. See which one doesn't fit?

CFB going to a 12 playoff means anywhere from 4-10 bowl games will get the axe.

Both Sydney (2000) and Melbourne (1956) have hosted the Olympics. Brisbane has hosted large scale events before, having hosted both the Commonwealth Games and Goodwill Games.

I'll let this go from here, but those aren't Olympic Games level event or anything close. The Olympic committee has a habit of placing the Games in places that have to start from close to scratch with infrastructure for no good reason. It's a proposition designed to lose money, probably because it's easier to skim cash that way.

Meh. Kind of lost interest in the olympics. Amateurs? Are they? No. Pros? Some. Now men’s events and women’s events. Are they? Used to be for your country but now we hear My country didn’t get me here.

Ooh, if the summer games are held in Australia, maybe we can see some cricket action.

/goes to look it up

Apparently the 2028 LA games are seeking to add cricket to the list of their games. It would be the T20 format, but since that's the quickest version of the game (that's played at a serious level), that's the one that should be played. Too bad Chris Gayle, the universe boss, will be far too old to show off his batting power then.

HA! T20 brother, T20. Those matches last about as long as a regular baseball game. Though, I have to say, I do prefer the the five day test version of the game. It's so relaxing to watch and there is a ton of strategery going on each day. Plus, they break for tea and lunch; how gentlemanly.

I was watching the Denmark vs Finland soccer match and a Denmark player just collapsed on the field. I'm pretty sure he's dead as they performed CPR on him for a long time. Horrible. My heart goes out to his family.

HOLY SHIT! He's alive! Thank goodness for the EMTs that tended to him. They performed CPR on him for what seemed like ages. I thought for sure that he was done for. When they carted him off the field, his teammates had him surrounded with large banners/flags to shield him from the fans and cameras.

A Reuters photographer saw him raise his hand as he was being stretchered off. beIN reported that he was stable when he left the stadium.

Yeah ... Christian Eriksen. Not only a Danish player, but their best player ... in Copenhagen ... playing another Scandinavian side. Woof.

Denmark’s team doctor confirmed that Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest and “he was gone” before being resuscitated.
