Good overview from real meteorologists here...

(Anyone who is posting a forecast this far out is not credible.)

Either way … if you need to get to the grocery store in the next few days, I’d do it before Friday when it’s almost certainly going to be a mess. Even the rumor of snow/sleet/freezing stuff/death from above sets off the great bread, milk and beer rush.

Bread & milk? WTF are they for?

Really regardless of what the networks are saying versus what this guy is saying, Saturday/Sunday almost assuredly are going to be some sort of frozen disaster for the Triangle. The beginning of next week just from a residual perspective might not be great either. Even if everyone heeds the warnings and stays off the roads, the possibility of power outages during frigid temps could make this a really bad situation.

Legal analysis on the Duke case from Michael McCann at Sportico

Maybe Duke should have chosen to sign a contract with a player that has character/integrity. We know they didn’t by his breach of contract and it’s confirmed by his willingness to be associated with the most classless and characterless school/program in the country. Glad the ewe lost.

Anyone have a small engine repair guy? My generator refuses to start.
I’ve never personally used him, but Loving Care Small Engine Repair is the one that was on the recommendation list at my old church and I know he helped out several of our folks. The number I have is 919 649 0091. Sadly, the guy we used to use when I was in construction went out of business.

The uncertainty of a large ice storm event should be what most of us don’t want to see. Give me another circa 2000 twenty inch snow event over an inch or two of ice!

My Wake County v1 experience (when I moved from CT) went from March 1999 - August 2003 before we moved to NJ for 9 years. My first 4 winters in NC I got to experience the blizzard of Jan. 2000 and the terrible ice storm of Dec. 2002. Coming from CT, I was NOT impressed by the 'better NC winters compared to New England'.

While the blizzard was a nightmare, at least we had power. What I remember about that ice storm was hunkering down with my wife and then 7 month old daughter with no power while we listened to pine trees snapping all night. Sounds like this weekend might be as bad as that 2002 ice storm, especially if we get a couple of inches of snow before the freezing rain starts. They are talking about 24-36 hours of freezing rain falling. THAT is not going to be good.

Yeah, the period since 2002 is FAR more like whatever passes for normal winters around here. I’ve lived here forever and can only remember maybe one other snowfall to rival that mess in 2000 … although we did run through a cycle of freezing rain storms back in the late 70s and early 80s that were truly awful. IIRC, we had 3-4 winters in a row with freezing rain that would turn the roads to ice rinks and back then all the power and phone lines were above ground, so that was a mess as well. In 1980 or 81 we had 3-4 weekends in a row with that kind of storm. Played havoc on our high school sports schedule … and everything else.

I moved to Cary from Iowa in fall 78. I left my snow pup snow blower, shovels, etc. b k in Iowa And was wishing I had them during those winter years.

We moved to Raleigh from New Jersey in 1992. It was a corporate relocation, so the movers took everything that was in our garage. So we had a couple of snow shovels, a Flexible Flyer and a couple of snow saucers. My neighbors laughed at me until they needed the shovels and their kids wanted to learn how to use the sled.

[Kyle] Tucker is yet another free agent that the Dodgers were able to sign to a nine-figure deal, furthering the divide between the haves and the have-nots in the sport. And while the Dodgers are in their own stratosphere of spending, even compared to heavy hitters like the Mets, Yankees, and Red Sox, the gap to the bottom half of the Major Leagues in payroll is becoming astronomical. The Dodgers will pay more in luxury tax in 2026 than 11 MLB teams will spend on their entire roster.
That's from an Awful Announcing article on their predicted MLB work stoppage.

Looks like the worst possible type of winter storm. I can deal with snow but ice just flat out sucks. Makes the trees look all beautiful and shit until the limbs snap and rip down power lines lol. My wife is a nurse and will have to get to work so here’s to hoping my 4x4 will keep me on the road. Tons of steep hills in my subdivision and the road to the hospital so it will not be fun.

Stay safe everyone. If you see the Stay Puff marshmallow man or an At At….RUN
