2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

I'll listen to almost anything in my 1,000+ CD collection in it's intended entirety. From Shinedown and Volbeat, to Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden. Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Billie Holiday, The Ramones, Beatles, or the Outlaws.

Add me to the Mac Rumors list. That is just an amazing piece of work.

My music tastes are all stuck in 70s and 80 rock. I still listen to many Rush albums all the way through (give me Hemispheres, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures at the top of my list). Really most anything by Queen (Sheer Heart Attack, a Day at the Races, A Night at the Opera, News of the World and The Game). I'm a big Journey fan too and Infinity and Escape are worthy of end to end listens. If you have never seen the Live version of Mother, Father from the Escape tour that is floating around YouTube its worth a watch. One more...Styx Grand Illusion.
 
If you are even just a casual fan of Fleetwood Mac during those years, definitely listen to the Conan Needs a Friend Podcast episode with Lindsey Buckingham. I wouldn't call myself a fan of the band, but this interview with Buckingham was fascinating.
 
I prefer to listen to an album straight through, but a few tunes grate my nerves and must be bypassed. My wife listens to her entire music catalogue alphabetically from start to finish as she exercises or walks. She walks 9 miles a day plus does an aerobics video daily, except when it's too damn hot, then she does a 90 minute workout in the pool plus aerobics. I do not take my music in that regimented a fashion. I listen to whatever trips my trigger at the time. I may listen to the same album back-to-back. I walk 5-6 miles daily and do stretching and sets of whatever I'm capable of on that day for fitness and music just helps it go easier.

Allman Brothers Live at the Filmore East is another album I absolutely love.

Hendrix Electric Ladyland.

Odd bit of trivia is that Tommy Ramone was an assistant engineer on it. And Lemmy was one of Jimi's English roadies and ended up writing a tribute song to the Ramones.
 
Music nerd here. Many albums were assembled to be enjoyed in sequence. Not just some random handful of songs. Back when there was talent, skill, and drugs involved. Today's hit it and quit it mentality is for the short attention spams of 30 and under crowd.
 
TIL the Hollies are still touring. However, they announced today that due to health reasons, Tony Hicks has to step away from touring and out of respect for their long journey together, Bobby Elliott is also retiring, so the band will stop touring. Hicks is 80, Elliott is 84.
 
The State Fair circuit is still a good place to find musicians in their 70s and 80s of all sorts. Old blues guys, the odd English Invasion survivor, US radio hits acts from the 70s … nostalgia sells, man.

I didn't know where else to put this. I was in Safaga, Egypt diving the Red Sea from mid-July until mid-August. We met up with a friend from Holland, who had been there multiple times before. The resort was owned and run by a Dutch/Belgian couple and their clients were all continental Europeans. The dive boat was 88' long with 4 decks, 2 heads, several showers, lots of shade, plus 8 full time staff, including an excellent chef. We spent most of the day on board or diving, so I got the chance to hang & visit with people from Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Poland, Russia, Holland, Sweden, and there was even some Egyptian SEALS, who were diving for fun for a couple of days. One of the guys from southern Poland I spoke with was into hockey and motor sports. He said he grew up with a guy who went on to play in the NHL, but I probably hadn't heard of him. When I asked who, he said; Krzysztof Oliwa. I about flipped out. When I told him that Oliwa used to play with the Raleigh Ice Caps, our ECHL team and had been drafted by the NJ Devils. I also remembered that Oliwa's name was on the Stanley Cup from playing with NJD. He broke into a huge smile and laughed that I knew exactly who he was talking about.

I also told him that in 1993, my wife and I were in the jewelry store getting fitted for my wedding band and the only other customers were Oliwa and his soon-to-be-bride. Oliwa was wearing a L.A. Kings T-shirt and had a big black eye. I recognized him instantly & wished him luck in the rest of the season. He seemed happy about being recognized and shook my hand like he meant it.

Just got done watching the last episode of Bombing of Pan Am 103 on Netflix. It was very well done and I highly suggest it has a good TV show to spend time on. It's six episodes and they do a great job of centering the story on the humanity and the police procedural aspects. And I hope that you enjoy a nice Scottish accent.

I saw it as well

The debris field was unbelievable.

I believe it was episode three that showed how they traced the origin of where the bombers came from was some amazing investigative work
 
Understood, but I do want to add that the fine folks of Lockerbie are the true stars of this show. I really mean it when I say that this show centers on the humanity of all of the victims of the tragedy, including those that of the village that survived and had to live through the aftermath of the event.

I feel like undrafted guys on camp contracts … basically PTOs in hockey terms … aren’t the same as regular roster players. Still, this is NOT a good look. Neither is straight up European pro players getting college basketball roster spots. Somebody needs to figure some stuff out right quick like or else the chaos is just going to get worse. And before anybody starts talking about how there’s never been any integrity in college sports … yeah, there was SOME though, wasn’t there? Because if it’s all a sham, then there’s no point in paying attention. So yeah, there has always been a bit of a framework of integrity propping up all the under the table crap. We’re rapidly approaching the point where there’s no table.

A h/s bud got bumped off that flight. Not really sure of details due to the mists of time, but he was fortunate.

Also missed some type of murderous shenanigans on a NYC train.

I always like talking to our cost estimator w/ his Scottish speach.
