2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Not everyone. Just a particularly loud section of State's fan base. We'll see what the serious money guys feel like paying for, and see if there's more structural changes to come. Corrigan may have written that letter firing Doeren but it's not a given that he would have acted without prompting. It's also not a given that more changes are coming, but Corrigan is losing the money generating race to schools with WAY less resources and doesn't seem to even think it's a problem. A lot depends on how engaged the Chancellor feels like getting, but this is not Randy Woodson who wasn't really bothered with athletics so long as they weren't an embarrassment and a drag on other programs. Howell ain't that detached. There was a lot of friction between the Admin and Athletics over the Wade debacle last spring. That hasn't gone away in the meantime and probably has gotten worse.

If they do end up doing the big dumb thing, then Rivers at least fires up the grass roots enough to goose small dollar donations in the short term. But if State goes that way, they're putting a bandaid on a wound that needs stitches. Honestly, if they just let Corrigan hire from the traditional list of candidates without changing the financial structures, they're probably doing a less desperate version of the same thing.

Also, I've heard a few semi-rational people suggesting that Rivers might be a good fit for the GM position, like what Luck is doing at Stanford. Sounds far-fetched but I'm certain they'll at least consult with Rivers since his son is State's highest profile recruit in a hot minute.

Bringing him in as gm or even as qb coach/co—oc and let him learn what the college landscape is all about these days would be ok. But HC no

Our DC is gone now, also.
I don't want to pile on a guy who has been through some real family pain, but DJ Eliot was a BAD hire by Doeren, which he then compounded by terrible NIL recruitment on the defensive side of the ball. You could easily argue that if Dave had gotten that hire right and then supported the guy, his job wouldn't have been in jeopardy in the first place.

Yea, he made a few bad decisions in his last couple of years. He was close to being fired a few times until he beat Carolina, which should never be a measuring stick for job security....at least not until UNC is good enough to be a team worth beating. One of the reasons Boo's seat is hot is basically for that reason....

Yeah, Boo's got bigger problems than not moving on Doeren in previous years. Lots of them, from what I hear. He might survive this scrutiny, but if he does, he won't have the level of control over the department's finances that he has now.

Yeah, this would be a clean sweep and a fresh start for State football, with Dave having been there so long. They might keep one full time staffer around for continuity (probably an alum like Gavin Locklear or Isaiah Moore), but everybody else other than support staff will likely change. That's the way this usually goes. They might keep Dantonio Burnette too. He's an alum who is the lead in the strength and conditioning department. Technically he works for the AD, not the football staff, so ... whatever.

Yea, UNC kept Natrone Means and one or 2 others that were alums to help out.....the strength coach wanted to stay but Bill wanted his NFL guy so the strength coach agreed to take a promotion to stay in Chapel Hill. That dude is a trip and fun to talk with. He has some stories that are great to tell at parties when you are drunk and shouldn't be talking ;) lol

Looks like a good jump on construction of the new Red Hat Amphitheater. It also looks like the new stage configuration will throw more shade over the crowd. I can deal with it. There also doesn't appear to be any lawn with this new version. Looking forward to it becoming activated.

New Red Hat is more of a traditional midsized amphitheater layout and will have a better seating layout. I'm very much looking forward to it opening. They really did well getting that street closure from the City, because they basically got all of the actual building construction done while the existing facility was still operational.
