2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Cancelling the football program forever might not be the worst idea, although somehow players from UCONN make it to the NFL (some pretty good ones too). I have never cared for college football anyway, probably because UCONN has bee mostly irrelevant since moving up '1A' as it was at the time. I wouldn't notice if they stopped playing football.

Villanova got rid of FB for a while . UAB and East Tenn did too but they are both back.

Villanova dropped football for 5 years and when they brought it back, it came back as a 1-AA program. My junior year was the last as a 1-A team. We had an on-campus rally the day of the 1981 NFL Draft that was interrupted by the announcement that Howie Long had been picked by Oakland in the 2nd round.

NC Bars and gyms closed another 4 weeks. So HS football also won't happen then unless it is without fans and they need fans to pay the bills.

I wonder if UNCW will add FB , they are a big school to not have FB. Maybe they will if a big donor pays startup costs like a stadium. I think UNCC got a big donation when they added FB

The NCAA Division III Presidents Council has cancelled all fall championships.
Makes sense. They just don't have the resources to maintain the kind of testing and treatment protocols you'd need to play team sports. Those schools operate athletics on a shoestring budget as it is.

The Division II Presidents Council followed suit and cancels fall championships. There are more than 300 schools in D-II, about 450 schools in D-III. Schools in D-II can offer athletic scholarships, so they’ll still have that expense to contend with.

At the conclusion of their MLS is Back tournament in Orlando, the MLS clubs will return to playing games at their home stadiums and allowing fans where local laws permit. Dallas and Nashville, the two teams kicked out of the tournament becuase of positive cases, will play 2 matches in Texas next week. The full schedule will start on 8/21. The USL Championship (where NCFC plays) and the USL League 1 have been doing that for a few weeks.

Representatives from PNC Arena and the Wake County Board of Elections met today to discuss using the arena as an early voting site. The Florida Panthers and Atlanta Thrashers...I mean Hawks arenas are going to be used for that purpose.

Penn St says no fans for FB. If the fan requests a refund they lose their seats and parking for 2021. Exploding, heads are. :) That's a bad policy and it may not stand.

That, friends, is what's know as a bad faith negotiation. And it's Penn State, so ... not exactly shocking. They have WAY more demand than capacity and have always treated boosters lucky enough to be season ticket holders like dirt.
