2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Which pier is best for fishing at Nags Head? Jeanettes pier is nice, I have visited it. any advice on bait or lures? I have a saltware license even though I probably don't need one for pier fishing.

The University of Iowa eliminated men’s and women‘s swimming, men’s tennis and men’s gymnastics. According to the 2018-19 athelic department filing, those 4 sports cost just under $900k in operating expenses. They paid a $1.1 million severance to the football strength and conditioning coach earlier this summer.

Oh man! There goes yet another slice of Raleigh's soul that made me happy to be here. Since we moved to Cary, we hit up D&S whenever we get a craving for some slick or baked spaghetti or meatloaf, but this still feels like a loss to me personally since K&W was my first cafeteria of this kind

Although I rarely ate there (perhaps that's the problem), I really hate to see this institution shut down. As JB said, it was the place to eat for a LOT of older clientele, many of whom would go there several times per week.

Was the 'i'm too lazy to cook' go to. Hate this m'f'ing plague. But the one in Tower shopping center is still open?

Was there one night w/ a 4 year old Sarah. She turns around and looks at a very large, portly, State student (looked like a huge deadhead in overalls to me) and says to me, "Daddy he's fat". Lord! Sarah we don't say such things. Dude says to me "It's OK. She's right, I am fat." Thanks, buddy. Go Pack.

I only post this NBA news because it’s local. Former Enloe and NC State Star Nate McMillan was fried by the Indiana Pacers after being swept in the first round of the playoffs. Despite a 183-136 record in 4 seasons, he was 3-16 In the playoffs and had lost 9 straight playoff games.

I never realized until someone told me why cafeterias have dessert first. It worked on me because I almost always got the dessert. at a cafeteria and I almost never got it at a regular restaurant.

Deep fried or pan fried? 🤣

Meh ... Nate's going to get another job. He's done good things in Indy with a team that simply isn't built to handle a playoff series against anybody any good. And here's the kicker ... most playoff opponents are decent.

NC State shutting down dorms and sending everyone (including my daughter who was in her first college semester) home for online classes only.

My daughter who works a UNCW is confronted by a full email inbox every day by student organizations snitching on each other for hosting parties, etc. that violate University guidelines. This is on top of the form they can send anonymously. Since UNCW is a state institution, she has to log all the emails for archival purposes.

Probably. He’s been either an assistant or head coach continuously since 1999, except for the 2012-13 season.

Kind of interesting to see how this university situation plays out. Without the social interaction and without in person classes not much benefit to on campus. Not thinking people will want to pay the same $$$ for online and interesting to see if students will want to do that.

K&W closing their cafeteria in Cameron Village permanently yesterday feels like an assault on people of a certain age. The chain operator also closed a bunch of other NC locations as well.
in all seriousness, this bothered me. The one in chapel hill closed too and I have been going to that place since the 80s when I was a student. And yes, some of the same people still worked there! Sounds corny but just always reminded me of my upbringing and lots of associated good memories of my formative years in western North Carolina. Forever ingrained in my mind will be the voice of someone yelling "chop steak with" as I head down the line. Farewell old friend!

That rots.
Mine is in her last year of h/s at School of the Arts. 1 student and 2 faculty have tested positive there out of maybe 3,000 students.
Old friend of mine is facilities AVC there and noted not having frats and sports probably helps. I know they worked like hell all summer getting ready and we've had plenty of notification of what is expected from the students to to their part.
Hope it holds up. I really, really need more shit keeping me awake at night!
I snarkily told Sarah last month all we had to worry about in the early 80s was nuclear war.

interesting times. We're on the hook for an apartment until next July for my son at ECU and for the most part he will still continue to stay there and work online. The other night he pops into town unexpectedly and asks if he can spend the night. Sad but I'm like "yea, but please sit on the other couch across the room". Uggh.

NBA players have boycotted all of today’s games in protest. It started with the Bucks refusing to come out for their earlier game, now the rest of today’s games wont be played.
