2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

I've never been a fan of Armstrong on air, but he's a good dude and it's a shame that he felt like he needed to leave broadcasting rather than accept a continuing reduction in his role.
Yeah, local sports has been reduced to about a 30 second cut. I watched WTVD primarily because their only competition when I moved here was WRAL and, as much as I liked Fishel, I hated Tom Suiter.

True dat. 25 minutes of misery and what is bad in the world today, 4 minutes of weather and a minute of sports thrown in.

Oops, forgot to mention commercials.

A bit of levity provided by iPhone message translation screwupery.
Sunday I went to an old friend's for a cookout and brought some flowers for his mom, wife and daughter. His mom left me a message Monday morning, translated by my phone as follows:

“Hey Lou it's just me. I wanted to thank you again for the phallus which I know I already sang to 5000 times..."

Not quite!

Durham Bulls pitcher Tyler Zombro hit in the head by a line drive tonight. Video was awful. If had seen it in person I probably would have puked. Poor guy. Hope he’s ok.

Richard Deitsch’s media column at The Athletic has a partial listing of Olympic announcers. Most will be calling from the NBC Sports studios in Stamford, CT. There are a couple of familiar names in the article. Brendan Burke, who has been calling the Canes/Bolts series will call rowing and canoe sprint. Patrick Kinas, the voice of the Durham Bulls will call some swimming events.

I wonder if Pierre will do water polo. I know that sounds like a joke, but it’s actually not.

They're certainly going big on the soccer coverage ... Arlo White and Derek Rae are about the highest quality play by play combo you could get for an American network.

I'm a bit behind on my Financials news....Dundon Capital Partners LLC and their co-bidders in the Hertz bankruptcy auction ended up losing out to a rival set of bidders. They will get a $77 million breakup fee though due to Hertz settling on a different bid.

So no free rental cars for the Canes.
