2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

A worldie from the Czech Republic’s Patrik Schick, reminiscent of Carli Lloyd in the 2015 World Cup.

Considering how the season started? No question.
1-8 in conference at one point, and couldn't hit a lick. Their young guys grew up quick and they figured out a few things as the year went along. Really good defensive team. I love Elliot Avent like he was family but the guy is an awful strategist and just getting this far is a freaking miracle. I'm not expecting much from here ... but happy they got to Omaha.

My daughter is about a month older than Claire Curzan and was swimming with Claire at RSA until Claire switched over to TAC about 4 or 5 years ago. For those of us with kids in year round swim in that age group, it wasn't so much a matter of "if" than "when" Claire would be competing for spots on the US team. She wasn't just winning races, she was winning them by incredible margins and setting local, state, and National junior records all over the place. She was 'stop whatever you are doing and watch this' level talent. The postponement of the Olympics actually worked to her advantage.

Congrats to her, pretty cool to be able to have your kid say she swam with and raced against an Olympian.

A lot of near misses for area swimmers last night. NC State’s Ryan Held, who was a relay medalist in Rio finished 6th in the 100 free final. He has an outside shot at making the team as a relay swimmer. Coleman Stewart, also from State, was also in the final. Ross Dant from State finished 3rd in the 800 free, it was his 2nd-3rd place finish of the meet. Charlotte Hook, a 17 year old from Raleigh, finished 3rd in the 200 fly final.

Christian Eriksen was discharged from the hospital today. He visited with his teammates, who play Russia on Monday. They have a very slim chance of advancing with a win over the Russians, they’d need help from Belgium to not only beat Finland but overturn a -2 goal differential to the Finns.

He either got, or is getting an internal defibrillator.
