Meh, whatever on the draft lottery changes. Buffalo will love those changes, hopefully its a long time before the Canes care about them.

Well, the Canes probably would have missed out on Svech under those rules, so I'm not out here applauding or anything. Still, whatever.

I actually was thinking that before I posted, but the Canes jumped from 11th to 2nd that year, which would still be possible with these new rules.

Yep, that is about right. Throw Peel under the bus because he got caught actually saying it out loud. Tonight the NHL refs will continue on with 'evening things out' and 'make up calls' like this event didn't happen last night.

No doubt same old, same old from here on. I guarantee the refs can't wait to get crowds back in the building, so they can get back to saying that junk. Kinda makes you wonder what Mick McGeough or Kerry Fraser used to say when they "called" a game?

Jim

NHL record for losing streak is 18 by Pens in 04 season. Next 5 games for slugs are Pitt, x2 Boston, Philly x2

Draft lottery changes next year :

They lost to the Pens tonight for their 15th in a row. It’s the longest losing streak since the shootout started in 2005-06.

Only 2 of those 15 losses netted Buffalo a point. They have lost the last 7 in regulation and have been outscored 31-10 in those 7 losses. Eric Staal is now -20 in 31 games (3 goals 7 assists). Rasmus Dahlin is -30.

During the streak, they’ve had 9 separate 3 goal losses. The bottom 6 and 7 of the bottom 10 in the league in plus/minus play for Buffalo, led by the aforementioned Dahlin. Staal is tied for 2nd with Sam Reinhart with Taylor Hall (how’s that contract working out, big guy?) and Victor Olofsson right behind at -19. Colin Miller rounds out the bottom 6 at -18.

Who leads the league in plus/minus? That would be Joel Edmundson at +24

Buffalo is going to need to eat a chunk of Hall's cap hit and salary to trade him. Who wants to pay big bucks for what he is doing out there this year?

At least it’s only a year. His daily cap hit is $68,966. If the Slugs eat half, does the new team need $4 million available or just the balance of the $34,500 per day for the rest of the season?

If you are using capfriendly, a team would need $4 million in "Deadline Cap Space" in that scenario if the trade was made on deadline day and Buffalo retained 50%.

Or if you want to see if a team could make this work today, the current cap space is the number to look at.

Of course, as part of a trade teams can move out cap room as well, so just about anything is possible. I definitely would not want to pay Hall 'full boat' for what he is bringing on the ice, even if its for 30ish days. And I'm certainly am not forking over very much to trade for Taylor Hall. We know the Canes won't be involved, so that is good news, it will be interesting to see what team trades for him (if that even happens).

The trade deadline is only 18 days away (April 12th).

My money is on the Islanders.

Lou would have to be creative. They already have Lee and Boychuk on LTIR. It doesn’t help that they’re carrying $4.425 million for Andrew Ladd on the taxi squad. But with Lee out the rest of the season, it makes sense.

Zibanejad and the Rangers at it again vs. the Flyers. It took Zibanejad 9 minutes and 30 seconds to score 3 straight goals tonight, all on the PP. 6-1 Rangers 14 minutes left in the 2nd period.

At least the Flyers got one this time. Hart yanked after allowing 5 goals on 10 shots.

Zibanejad has 5 points in half a game. Shades of his crazy finish last regular season after his 6 point game last week.

Meanwhile the Flyers are falling apart.
