2) whistles get put away even deeper in the pocket in elimination games.

There is no excuses for their lack of push in game 7. I guess they became to reliant on their elite skill set to save them.

1) Marner and Matthews got it into their heads that they had to win the series all by themselves.
2) the rest of the team seemed only too happy to sit back and watch them try.
 
Canadiens changed their strategy from chasing the Leafs all over the ice to just holding the fort around Carey and boxing out the opposition. Same strategy against the Jets and is still working.
