2022-23 Premier League Thread

He did more of a 4-4-2 in this first match with the two central midfielders sitting back and the other two midfielders and two "strikers" just being fluid attackers. Defensively it was a clear two banks of four with sometimes even one of the midfielders dropping back forming almost a 5-3-2 defensively.

Yeah, I still call that a 4-2-3-1, but it's just semantics because the group in front of the defensive line and the 2 central midfielders is all over the place by design. Either way, he immediately chucked the double pivot scheme in possession ... thank God. Stevie was getting about as much joy out of that as Gregg Berhalter does when he insists that the USMNT set up that way.

If you're going to allow that first goal from Spurs to stand, what is the point of even having VAR? The entirety of the Spurs reddit were all saying, well that's obviously going to get overturned in their game thread. Replay doesn't work if you're afraid to upstage a ref for making the wrong call. That's literally the only purpose of replay.

No clue what that was about, really. Just another dark spot on the EPL's officiating, at the end of the day ... but while things change, they never seem to actually get better.

First half of Liverpool v Villa match, thought the Reds would crush them. But the second half was completely different. Good adjustments by Emery. Glad my lads weathered the storm and then our kid, Bajcetic, scored a nice goal to clinch it

Btw, Manchester City beat Leeds 3-1 today. Erling Haaland scored his (19th and) 20th goal(s) today, in just his 14th match. The fastest player to 20 goals to start his Prem career before that? Kevin Phillips took 21 games to score 20 for Sunderland in 1999-2000. The guy is unreal!

He's absolutely tailor made for that system and surrounded by world class playmakers. Haaland was always going to go off when he got to City, the only question was how long it would take him to get comfortable. Answer ... like 5 minutes.
