2023 Draft and UFA Thread

Yeah, easy to say that now but they had a path just a week ago.
LOL. I said a week ago that there still was no path. The Leafs are and always were a fraud just like I've been saying year in and year out. They got lucky and the Law of Averages came through for them in the first round but they never deserved to win that series. I told Leafs fans 2 years ago that they needed to blow up the core and rebuild but of course they wouldn't hear of it. If blowing a 3-1 series lead to a team as bad as the 2021 Habs doesn't tell you that you'll never be good enough as is, then I don't know what else it will take. They need to accept the reality that they will never win anything with Matthews and Marner. They are too soft, and have no guts or heart. They are not winners.

They had just as much of a path, if not an easier one, than the '01 'Canes and '06 Oilers (I know that both lost in the finals but still) or 2019 Blues, had. I also don't think Leafs fans are ready for yet another "rebuild" and I don't blame them.

Time is up with this core

Really there's one more year but this is completely insane. 3 10m+ guys and they can't buy a fucking goal. Where's the meanness? Tenacity? Where's the FUCK YOU in these guys?

Kinda glad we're only rebuilding because if the Habs pulled that shit 6 straight years? I'd be livid then just done. Fed up. Call me when you figure it out.

Not enough toxic masculinity in them.

Take your pick , retool on the fly or be the Caps in a few years

when Bettman rewards Molson for his league welfare contributions and gives us Conor tonight, how many years do we wait until he plays for us so as not to rush/ruin him as we have others?

Please. Leafs fans have proven time and again that they will put up with whatever they have to. They will never stop buying tickets and merch.

The first thing that Leafs management and their fanbase need to accept is that their team is a fraud and that it is garbage. Yes, it is good at accumulating points in the regular season but in games that matter it is garbage. Marner and Matthews are garbage. Again, they rack up points in Games 1-82 and then they are garbage. So the Leafs need to decide whether having regular season stars who turn to shit in the playoffs is what they want. Pierre Turgeon was a great regular season player too but his teams never won shit when it mattered. They must blow it up and start over, and they need to do it with a new GM and a new coach.

Sell Marner and Matthews while they can max out on the return. Nylander too. Tavares they are stuck with. Let O'Reilly walk. Stop pretending that you're good enough to win a Cup because you're not and you never were. In 8 seasons with this core you never were and you never will be. Gut it like a fish and start over from scratch. Accept reality.

There's too many lugs then there's just no jam at all man. 34, 16, 91 and 88 have nothing. I was watching them last night and they embarrassed themselves with their frustration and serious pussy footing. Matthews had a little bit he's a big guy, he needs to lean on people instead he got leaned on by Barkov who I would take over Matthews as my center. He just plays the game correctly in almost every scenario. Such a brilliant player. Sure there are better offensive centers but this guy brings Selke type D along with 1.2 ppg. That is a first line center.

Toronto's going to be kicking themselves for a very long time after this off-season.

With Bawstun & Tampa Bay losing in round 1, and with Carolina having half of their top-6 wingers out for the whole playoffs, and there being no real standout team in the West? There's a wide open path to the Cup. When opportunities like that arise, you need to jump on them like the Blues did a few years ago.

And Toronto's problems from previous years is still the same. Too much money to too few players up front, many of which don't seem willing to play playoff hockey, not enough to their defense and goaltending. I've been a long-time advocate of trading Nylander for a similar player on defense.

I thought we were on our way to a Toronto - Dallas finals, but it wouldn't shock me in the least that we end up with a weird finals like New Joizy - Las Vegas. It's one of the very few years that a credible argument could be made for every single team (except Toronto) remaining could win the Cup.
