2023 Draft and UFA Thread

If Habs stay 5th and Fantilli, Smith, Carlsson are gone I’m starting to think they draft Orville Redenbacher & forgo the Russian
Red will be a nice top 4 , Habs need better

Mailloux has a higher upside , take Barlow

2 way beast with size and hands , Brady Tkatchuk clone

If we were drafting 10th to 12th, Reinbacher would be an option. But at 5th / 6th, it seems like a reach.

Smith > Perreault > Dvorsky > Leonard

Proooooobably in that order.

And with Florida's pick, which is looking like it might be late in the first, Étienne Morin.
I think if that happens they package the late pick for something or to move up to 18-25 range.

Habs will be drafting 6 I belief. Outcome of tomorrow's game will tell us if Florida will win the series easily or if Toronto can pull it out.

No Benson?

I don't like to play the size game, but besides Bedard/Michkov, I'm not interested in drafting Benson/Cristall with our first pick.

You can have some small players, but we're about at the point where we can't really have any more. Caufield, Gallagher, RHP, Farrell, there's probably already one too many in that group. I grant you that by the time we're actually competitive, Gallagher's contract will be up, or almost up, and it's TBD if Farrell/RHP make it as everyday NHLers, we'll see.

If we're lucky enough to draft Bedard, two of those players need to be traded. You can win with Bedard/Gallagher(RHP?)/Caufield, but you need some size around them. The easiest place to find player that usually have size & skill is early in the first round. There's a bunch of players that are average to above average size available.

If you look at the remaining teams in the playoffs:

Las Vegas: 2 players that are less than 6' that played 1 game with them all year. One player 5'9" or less.
Deadmonton: 3 players that are less than 6' that played 1 game with them all year. One player 5'9" or less.
Dallas: 6 players that are less than 6' that played 1 game with them all year, but besides Domi they're all 5'11.
Seattle: 6 players that are less than 6' that played 1 game with them all year. One player 5'9" or less.
Carolina: 6 players that are less than 6' that played 1 game with them all year. No players below 5'10"
New Joizy: 4 players that are less than 6' that played 1 game with them all year. No players below 5'10"
Florida: 4 players that are less than 6' that played 1 game with them all year. One player 5'9" or less.
Toronto: 2 players that are less than 6' that played 1 game with them all year. No players below 5'10"

When I look at the Habs, we have Suzuki, Gallagher, Farrell, RHP and Harris who are probably all on the opening day roster next year. There's a good chance all of them are going to be on this team for the foreseeable future.

Of our prospects of note: Hutson, Mesar, Kidney, Beck, Mysak, Simoneau, Rohrer, they're all sub-6'.

We need more prospects with size, especially forwards. And in the top-10, there's a bunch of them available.

With our late first, I don't care. It's a lottery pick.
