2023 Draft and UFA Thread

The war is now 18 months old and only the chattering classes still discuss it, last year it would have been politically incorrect to take a Russian but now it is just a distant war that has evolved into a stalemate with no end in sight. People won't care about him being Russian other than pro Ukranian or anti-Russian firebreathers. My only concern is getting him in the uniform, if that is a possibility it is a huge risk and we would have wasted a year of being shitty for it.
 
and if anyone yaps about him being a Russian, the response should be, are members of a nationality religion or race responsible for all their race/religion/nationality does? It would be interesting to see the response from the press on that one, because the follow up comment from the team would be delicious to watch.
 
The real question is whether Will Smith is actually an “elite” prospect? The one game I saw him play in-person he displayed above average skills but I wasn’t blown away. But yeah, it was just one of the 90 or so games he played this year and I doubt he cared that I was there.

@Count I totally get what you’re saying and I agree, but do I trust that Geoff wants to get into all that “responding” ….and of course, there’s the whole when will he play for us. Again, I have no problem waiting 3 years but some in the org might have well founded fears that the wait would be longer.

TL DR: Mitchcov is not your typical pick. If he was born anywhere else he’d go #2. He’s gonna slide — once an asset slides, it’s very difficult to predict how far because everyone has a different tolerance for risk.

Difference is, nobody would have picked those guys as early as TT did.

He won't pass if Michkov is the last of the top 5 ranked players. He may trade the pick in a move we like but he won't pass.

My point is none of us know what will happen. I like your prediction, hope it comes true but I fully expect uncertainty until the choice is announced

Agreed….draft is full of unknown.

Seth Jones was supposed to go #2 behind MacKinnon….he slipped to 4th.

Phil Kessel slipped to #5….all year he was #2 behind Erik Johnson

They will have lines of communication with him. Sure they can't control the ice time but he has been getting it at 17 years old. Plus Habs have connections to the khl team.

That draft was all over. Lots had drouin number 2, some had jones number 1.
