19. Brutal stretch of injuries for the Canadiens, losing Kirby Dach for the season and Kaiden Guhle for a little while. Curious to see if this gives Mattias Norlinder, now at AHL Laval, an opportunity. One thing is very clear: Montreal feels much better about Norlinder than it did a year ago. Much, much improved pre-season performance.

20. An interesting thing in Montreal to start the season: only Martin St. Louis does the verbal work with Juraj Slafkovsky. No confusion, no mixed messages. One voice. The Canadiens know he can fire it, but they’ve also showed video of how going to the net results in goals. Happened for him in the pre-season.

New Jersey Devils are a blast. Carolina too.

In the West, Deadmonton's wildly entertaining. They're good if McDavid & Draisaitl score, but they're shit otherwise.

Another option, and a good excuse to go out: Seattle Thunderbirds. I would have said go watch Gavin McKenna when he visits, but for some dumb reason, Medicine Hat isn't playing in Seattle or at Tri City this year.

I would have but I’m no longer in Seattle.

NJ, Oilers and Carolina are all teams I’m considering. I’ll watch a few teams and will make up my mind.

A had a buddy who got fed up with the Habs a few years ago, and decided to become a fan of the Minnesota Wild (pretty random team). It didn't take. A couple of weeks later, he was back to suffering with the rest of us. Of course, we still refer to him, in jest, as "a Minnesota Wild fan".

For me, becoming a fan of a team is something that sort of happens to you, I'm not sure I can actively control it. I found I became a St Louis Cardinal fan as an adult because it was my son's favourite team. Of course, in hockey, I find myself cheering more for some teams to beat others (kind of partial to Pittsburgh, Ottawa, and maybe a few others when they play teams I don't much care for like Leafs, Bruuns, Carolina. I'm also not generally a fan of of sun belt teams for some reason. Not sure logic or choice went into any of it.

Oh I have no illusions, I don't think I can become a true fan of another team, just looking to find a team to follow more than others and maybe have some interest in. I'm just not that interested in the Coyotes, and what would be the point of that, but I do follow the Kraken a bit.
