2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

While he's not playing poorly, he's certainly not the Svech we love - and need. I think he needs to clear his mind and just react - maybe his natural instincts and skills can come through.
Honestly, the guy just needs a couple more clean shots to go in and I think everything falls into place for Svech. Like you say, he's playing solid hockey. He just needs the swagger that comes from potting a few goals rather than scoring all his goals in the muck.

Yeah, even though Necas is way out in front with the points lead for the team (and the whole league!), the other guys are not just tagging along.
Canes are 2nd in goals per game at 4.00. There are 9 guys with at least 5 goals, that’s nearly a 20 goal pace. Are Robinson and Martinook continuing at that pace? Probably not. But they can’t be overlooked by opponents.

So we recalled Ty Smith last night. Is this a paper move for cap space, or is a D banged up? Anyone have any ideas?
Not a paper move, for sure. Remember, you only gain cap space on paper when you shed daily payroll. So the paper transactions generally go the other direction.

And I also noticed Chatfield getting some extra attention from the training staff the other night, along with Jarvis ... FWIW

Ty Smith has AHL salary of $200k, but with a guarenteed minimum if $275k.

Riley Stillman's AHL salary is $150k, but with a guarenteed minimum of $350k.

If you are wondering why we keep calling up and sending down Smith and Stillman those guarenteed minimums are one reason.

Josiah Slavin has a $450k guarantee. But he’s behind Lemieux and Jost, so he won’t be recalled anytime soon.

Per Ryan Henkel

Pyotr Kochetkov back on the ice for the first time since sustaining an injury in Columbus."I'm back...(choice words)," he proclaimed.

Per Walt Ruff "The #Canes have recalled defenseman Riley Stillman and assigned goaltender Yaniv Perets to the @Chicago_Wolves."

Pyotr must at least feel well enough to backup, that's great news considering how bad the injury looked.

It appears he’s in the starter’s crease, Walt has him listed first.

Robinson - Aho - Necas
Svechnikov - Drury - Roslovic
Martinook - Staal - Jarvis
Carrier - Kotkaniemi - Blake

Slavin - Burns
Orlov - Chatfield
Gostisbehere - Walker
Stillman

Dustin Tokarski was signed, 1 year/ 2 way contract $775k in the NHL, $100km AHL, $150k guarantee. He’s on waivers So that he can be assigned to Chicago.

Stop gap third option in place of Perets now I guess, I still think Tulsky and company might be waiting to see a goaltender hit waivers in the next week or two instead of making a trade and giving up assets...if a team like the Sharks felt Askarov was ready I could see Blackwood or Vanacek hit the waiver wire.

I think they will find something more permanent (for next year and beyond) at the trade deadline. No reason to panic now. This team is good enough to get to the deadline limping with this goalie collective
