2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

LeBrun says Andersen is undergoing a minor clean-up procedure on his knee that will keep him out 8 weeks or so.

The wider reports put the window at 8-12 weeks and since this is Freddie you can probably extend it to 14. 8 weeks would stretch to mid to late January, 12 to that February break, 14 to basically March 1. The trade deadline is March 7, but Carolina seemed to have designs on help up front again. I doubt they want to blow their trade and cap powder on a goalie unless they have to. My guess ... so long as Kooch stays healthy and keeps playing at his current level, they might try to stretch it out until Freddie comes back without making a move in net. Martin is capable of carrying a backup's load, so long as they handle him correctly. I doubt he's capable of platooning, so that's where the evaluation kicks in.

And this is another point where Carolina's approach will likely differ from standard, so the press will be confused (and critical) if the Canes wait it out. If they get another TNT game, I'm sure Eddie O can tell us all about how his best buddy Ronnie Franchise would have played it. Given that he has such a proven grasp on goaltending and all.

Haha. It is an interesting problem to solve… again…. As long as the goaltending situation only costs them marginally in terms of points/playoff seeding then you’re really only looking at making sure you have a good platoon for the playoffs. The bright side is you will know of PK is the long term answer in goal.

Yeah, that last part is important I think. For once and for all, if Kochetkov gets another good long run as the 1A keeper at age 25 then you ought to at least be walking away with an understanding of his proper place in the universe post-Freddie. Because there's no chance Carolina gets stuck down the Freddie is hurt again well after this season.

And if so I will learn to spell Kochetkov.

Good to see him pivot immediately away from Parets towards Tokarski as a 3rd option. Otherwise that really read like Tulsky is going to explore options while hoping to high heaven that Kochetkov and Martin man the ramparts until Andersen comes back. Which makes sense to me.

“We like our team”

If a Reimer type passes through waivers again I’d take the flyer on that as some cheap insurance…that doesn’t upset future trade deadline plans and you can always waive a goalie if Fragile Fred ever is back to play meaningful minutes next March…

More like "there's nothing out there worth the bother." Seriously, Gibson is gonna cost an arm and a leg and it's FAR from guaranteed that he'd even be better than Martin. Other than that, what crappy team's backup does anybody really want? If they're going to gamble, it's an easy argument to make that they may as well gamble on their own guys. And hey ... something might change and somebody halfway decent might hit the shop window. Tulsky said they're keeping their eyes open and that makes sense.

I mean ... there's absolutely no reason to make an impulse move so long as he makes progress. There's also absolutely no reason not to start looking at trade options to see if something makes sense, especially with Freddie's situation likewise being unclear. Panic? That's for suckers.
