2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Lines/pairs at practice. Stillman still in yellow, Lemieux skating with him. Kochetkov is in the starter's crease.

Svech - Aho - Jarvis
Roslovic - KK - Necas
Martinook - Staal - Carrier
Robinson - Drury - Blake

Slavin - Burns
Ghost - Walker
Orlov - Chatty
Stillman - Lemieux

I will definitely say that after 1 game (but having watched both of these players for quite a while), I HATE the Roslovic/Necas pair. I don't think that pairing will ever work offensively or defensively.

Roslovic spent most of camp on Aho’s line and then swapped with Svech. So that makes no sense.

Meh. Brindy does that kind of thing all the time. And he'll probably revert back to the camp lines at some point. I agree that Roslovic and Necas seem like a weird fit, but maybe it's a work in progress thing. Nobody on that line had their brain engaged the other night, so it's difficult to judge.

Yeah, obviously one game does not make for a sound predictor of what happens in the future. I thought the chaos created by Necas and Roslovic on the same line might end up being good - like multiplying two negative numbers to get a positive - but time will tell. It would also help if KK could do more than take up space.

I'm giving KK about ten games. If he continues to be a passenger at that stage, I fully expect him to swap with Drury (or even Roslovic) and for the Canes to punch the "find a center" button in the scouting room.

The Canes hired Chris Abbott as VP of Pro Player Personnel. He's currently the GM of HV71 in the Swedish League, where he’ll remain until their season is complete. This is his first year with HV71, he had been at Rogle. He follows his brother Cam back to the US after years in Sweden.

Always good to have a Cornell man in the organization! #LetsGoRed #YellCornell

Impressive list of pros and prospects who have come through the Rogle system during his time there. This is a good get for Carolina.

Joakim Ryan cleared waivers and was assigned to Chicago. Brendan Lemieux was placed on waivers for purposes of assignment. Assuming he clears and is sent down, the Canes will have 12 forwards and 6 dmen on the roster. This probably clears the way for Riley Stillman to be activated for the road trip. If a forward goes down, they could go with the dreaded 11/7 configuration.

His brother the Wolves coach went there too.

Riley Nash was the last Cornell player?
Your last post just mentioned the most recent one...Joakim Ryan!

Also, I assume you're just asking about Cornellians playing for the Canes. Since Riley Nash entered the NHL, six or seven other Cornell hockey players have made it to the league, with Colorado's Sam Malinski the most recent to do so. (This does not, of course, include Seattle assistant coach Jessica Campbell, whose debut in the league is one of the biggest!)

LOL ... my brain went to Lemieux since I forgot he mentioned Ryan in that post. At which point my brain thought you had lost it because that boy is even less Ivy League material than Jarvis. Plus, with a first name like Joakim I always forget that Ryan is basically an American product, only having spent a couple of years in Sweden.

This slow start to October isn't doing much to get my excitement level up for hockey season. I've watched 4 minutes of hockey so far. We got home from the surgery in time for me to catch the end of the 2nd game. And now it several more days of waiting with no games. Next two games I'll be working until at least 8:30, so I may get to watch half. I hate October hockey scheduling around here.

FWIW, the Caps have only played 2 games and haven't had one postponed for hurricane reasons. Just sayin ...

No changes at practice before they head to Pittsburgh to start the State Fair roadie. Lemieux isn’t on the ice, if he clears waivers, he’s headed to Chicago. I asked Walt on Twitter if Stillman is traveling, if he is I suspect he’ll be activated off IR.

Svechnikov - Aho - Jarvis
Roslovic - Kotkaniemi - Necas
Martinook - Staal - Carrier
Robinson - Drury - Blake

Slavin - Burns
Gostisbehere - Walker
Orlov - Chatfield
Stillman

Andersen | Kochetkov

I do like banked cap space. I'm not a fan of going on a west coast road trip with ZERO extra players on the roster. Better have contingency plans ready to get SOMEONE to each city on the road trip if needed.

You can get away with 11 forwards and 6 Dmen for a game or 2 but it's not advisable to play a full game with less than 6 Dmen (despite what Dallas did in the playoffs).
