2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Is the NHL reshuffling the schedule due to the upcoming hurricane? In the canes app the calendar says canes at Boston Saturday but when I click on it, it reverts to canes at Tampa. Weird.

They haven't announced anything, but it if they have any flexibility then this would be a good time to use it. That storm went Cat 5 today, so it's not gonna be a trifle no matter where it lands.

Tampa airport is closing at 9 am tomorrow, so I assume the Bolts will head out either later today or early tomorrow. I don’t think they’ll wait until Thursday to fly out.

Google Maps is showing northbound I-75 as red or yellow from Sarasota almost to Gainesville. Folks are getting out of Dodge. My brother in law lives near Wiinter Haven, I think we'll be calling suggesting he do the same.

And it's up to 175 mph sustained according to NHC right now. Might wind up being the second worst thing that ever happened at Chixulub.

The league starts for real today with an ESPN triple header. St. Louis at Seattle at 4:30, Boston at Florida at 7:00 (possibly with Swayman in goal) and Chicago at Utah at 10:00. In a little broadcasting stunt, Ray Ferraro will work both the early and late game, he’ll fly to Salt Lake City immediately after the Seattle game ends.

Good for Chicken Parm, but honestly...why? I can barely handle the dude for only *one* complete game, especially when he's part of the announcing crew during a Hurricanes game against any New York-based team.

I gotta say (and maybe I'm just old and crusty) but if I had Kraken tickets and I'd be salty 'cause ESPN is broadcasting my game in the afternoon. Isn't it starting at like 1:30 their time???

Boston and Florida is a great tilt to start the real season in North America! Swayman might be rusty as a nail, I would go with the guy that actually spent the entire preseason working on his game in Korpisalo.

Kevin Weekes is reporting that Shesterkin has rejected a contract extension offer from the Rangers for 8 years at an AAV of $11 million. That would be the richest goalie contract in NHL history. Maybe he's just keeping his powder dry but if the Rangers honestly don't think they can get him extended, it puts them in a very awkward situation going forward. He's such a HUGE part of their team identity.

Yeah It's not too bad. I'm taking the day off to go to the game. I was super confused when I got my tickets though. Thinking of it like day baseball.

I like a nice day game, but for the home opener and in the middle of the week? Yeah, that's a bit much.

I expect that the Rangers and Shesterkin will figure out a contract. I can't imagine Shesterkin is going to find a lot of teams willing to fork over $12 per for a goalie, even if its Shesterkin. Plus its way more than just the contract, he is one of the faces of the New York Rangers. That in itself has to be worth millions more in opportunities.

As happened with Swayman, today there will be a lot of grumblings about the player being ridiculous about their contract ask, but somewhere down the road a deal will get done. Shesterkin isn't going anywhere.

It honestly could be as simple as the player not wanting to commit to a contract amount this early in the process. His most effective leverage is time and right now, it's not in short supply. And if I was his agent, if that's the play here then I'd make sure some key members of the NY press knew that.

The Panthers signed Carter Verhaege to a 8 year/$56 million extension. He’s in the last year of a 3 year/$12.5 million contract.

Year 1: $1M Salary & $7.75M Signing Bonus
Years 2-7: 1M & 6M SB
Year 8: 1M & 4.25M SB

Now thru Year 5 No Move
Yr 6 20 team no trade
Yr 7/8 16 team no trade

Utah with their inagural home win last night over the Blackhawks 5-2. Our buddy Teuvo Teravainen with Chicago's first goal and Mr. Azek in goal for Chicago. Boring uniforms there, UHC. Hard to imagine they went from a logo as cool as the Coyote's kachina crest to that.

It was also a big night for Seattle and the NHL with Jessica Campbell working as the first female assistant coach in the history of the League. Dan Bylsma, Seattle's new coach, and Campbell worked together on the Cochella Valley's Firebirds of the AHL with great success that they're hoping to carry over to the NHL.
