2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Maybe, but digging themselves out of holes is a thing this Oilers team has done before. We'll see.
If this Florida team gets in your kitchen they’re gonna burn it down. They found weak points and they’re attacking those:

1 Bouchard in general pressuring him hard. Maybe more waiting until he gets the puck and covering all his options and pouncing on the bad decisions he makes.
2 Klingburg - hitting him every chance they get.
3 Kane - getting him to take stupid penalties because he’s pissed.

They learn the places to pressure and turn that up to 10 and take advantage of the resulting mistakes.

And they seem to be able to keep their own emotions out of it and know who and when to pressure or not. Plus they seem to be fantastic at being in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the errors created by that pressure.

Kind of like how they hammered Pesce last year.

Yep, cannot believe the talking heads in the media taking one game in a series and sensationalizing it to a point that Florida is up 3-0 and have had their way with the Oilers. First two games were great hockey, third game you saw how the NHL garage league is allowed to muck things up when you simply do not call the rule book...Oilers should know better after last year not to get sucked into the Panthers garbage games. Let's not forget what went down in game 4 last year in the Cup Finals...Oilers won 8-2 or something nutty and the Panthers were the ones taking cross checks and runs at every Oiler in sight similar to last night...

Edmonton took the goon bait, hook, line and sinker. They made complete fools of themselves last night. I fully expect Florida to roll them in game 4, and then again in 5, maybe 6. Another Cup finals, and no cup, will be the end of this Edmonton run.

It never ceases to amaze me that Carolina and Edmonton both know the way Florida plays and what happens when you take the bait. Yet, here we are—there went Carolina and now, Edmonton.

I get it, because the Oilers pretty much took themselves out of that game and it was tough to watch. But it IS just one game and mental discipline is a thing that can be re-charged quickly. That was a huge chunk of their problem last night, I thought. They got all cross-wired and ticked off early and when they needed to push back they were in completely the wrong head space. It was a familiar enough feeling since that's basically the same thing that happened to Carolina in Game 3 of the Eastern Finals. The Canes bounced back with their only win in the series, just as everybody was shoveling dirt on them.

Seravalli says the Rangers and Ducks are working on a deal that would send Chris Kreider to the Ducks for prospect Carey Terrance and a pick. The Rangers would not retain any salary. Terrance is a center and was a 2nd rounder in 2023 who just finished his 4th season at OHL Erie. He was also on the gold medal winning US World Juniors team.

The Ducks apparently want to be big players this summer, but I'm not so convinced they will be as attractive a free agent destination as they think they will. Thus, using their Cap space to make trades is the other option. Kreider is the classic case of not being worth his contract in NY but probably much closer to worth it on a team with less at stake.

Vasily Ponomarov signed with KHL Avgard. He would have been a RFA without arbitration rights. From the Guentzel trade, the Pens have Ville Koivunen, the rights to Cruz Lucius, who must be signed by next summer and Harrison Brunicke, a dman they drafted with last year’s 2nd rounder. Lucius transferred to Arizona State from Wisconsin and had an underwhelming season, with 2 goals in 19 games after returning from shoulder surgery in January.
