2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Since it will be spring, hockey season will be over.
each team should pick 4 players and have a 4 day golf match using the Ryder cup format.

I’m OK with one of those 3…
I'm OK with 2. A September start overlaps more with football but would let them lose some of those ugly back to back scenarios where you basically guarantee a terrible game ... so long you don't get greedy and add regular season games. And at this point I wouldn't care if I never see another All Star game in any sport.

I just threw a fiver on it, what the heck, I'll be in the building 4/2.
I'm calling it now: the record breaking goal will happen as a result of Koochie fighting Tom Wilson off in a corner and Svech will try to clear the puck and he'll accidentally backhand it into the goal, but since Ovie was the closest Capital to the play, he'll get credit for the goal.

I just threw a fiver on it, what the heck, I'll be in the building 4/2, and we also play them 4/10 there.
I heard the home game on 4/2 is a pretty tough ticket because of that chase and folks have been making some hefty profits on the resale market for that one...

I’d say there’s a high likelihood that this somehow gets orchestrated to break the record in DC. Would he pass up an EN on the road?

I've already had a couple people reach out to me that know I am STM to see if I want to sell. Nah... the Ovy circus will be in town, might actually be fun if I disregard my Capitals hate for a minute.

Jakob Chychrun gets 8 x $72 million on a new extension in Washington, $9m AAV. Man we gotta love that Slavin contract more and more every day!!!

Chychrun rebounded nicely in DC and he's still got more offense to give than he's shown this season. That said, I've mostly seen him valued in the $7 million range for this season's work, so a long term AAV of $9 mil IS a bit steep. I'd assume they expect to ramp down Carlson's responsibilities and ramp up Chychrun's as that contract rolls out.

Details on Chychrun’s contract.

They were in the playoff hunt until the last few weeks last season. Maybe that gave him a grace period. He’s going to be 67 in June, this is probably the end of the line for him.
I guess, but even then he alienated about half of his players right out of the gate and turned everything into some sort of existential wrestling match ... for no reason whatsoever. And it would have been exactly what you could have predicted because it's exactly what he did at his last three stops in the NHL. I get that Torts can coach a certain kind of hockey and that some people in management think that's the kind of hockey they want to play, but the price is VERY high. When people talk about Brind'Amour's systems being bad for skilled players and still give Torts a pass for ruining skilled players with his mind games, it baffles me.

And it's such a shame, because before he lost his mind in New York, Torts was good for hockey. His puck pressure systems were a breath of fresh air coming out of the trap era and he used to be humble enough to let his good players drive the press narrative. But something snapped when he was with the Rangers. Maybe it was the constant press battles, maybe it was Dolan's insane ownership/management style, maybe it was just the pressure to follow up his success in Tampa ... I don't know. But that's a bitter, broken man and everybody who hires him is without excuse at this point.

And for the love of everything holy, can we somehow convince ESPN not to re-hire him as an analyst now that he's not coaching again? Because his brand of snake oil is really, really bad for a certain type of hockey bro in a way that I feel is damaging to the game.
