2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Stars forward Jason Robertson was injured in a meaningless game 82 against Nashville and is week to week. They’re also still missing Miro Heiskanen, who will probably miss the first round too.

Yup. Somebody remind me why Carolina's first line should have played in those last two games again.

How the NYR went from President’s trophy to
total mess is interesting because it’s never just one thing like coaching or a major injury. That organization is a hot mess from front office to locker room. You knew Lavi would be out because that’s an easy fix. Beyond that, it would seem that Drury should be out and if not, I expect to see someone join the org as his minder/replacement.

Kinda like the Hurricanes from Cup winners to 11th or 12 place in the East the following season. Shit happens. Lots of focus becomes lost focus too easily, especially when every other team is gunning for you.

The Rangers game on Thursday ended at 9:30. So this news comes about 36 hours later than I expected.
The Rangers might fire their coaches for fun, but there's no way they were dumping him without an exit interview. They have to keep up appearances for the next high profile guy they bring in.

Looks like the Ducks fired Greg Cronin today too. I was completely underwhelmed with the job he did with Anaheim's young players, even though they weren't really looking to compete this year. But he completely lost Zegras and under-used Leo Carlsson and Mason McTavish to the point where I actually wondered if he knew he was supposed to be developing kids instead of trying to grind out 2-1 losses. The Ducks were terribly both of their last two coaches (Travis Green) and GM Pat Verbeek made a bunch of curious decisions this year. Nobody's talking about a clean sweep in Anaheim, but honestly that's what I'd do. Their owner however is ... ummm ... mercurial. So, we'll see.

BTW, I know everybody seems to still be picking Dallas over Colorado, but this injury combined with the uncertainty of when Heiskanen will come back has me thinking that Colorado will get this one done. Dallas is DEEP, but Robertson drives their scoring so, so much. Early in the year when he was grinding and not getting results, they just weren't nearly as effective. We'll see but this was always a tight one, and that's two VERY big injury situations in terms of game impact.

I love how the annual culling of the terrible officials still leaves the likes of Garrett Rank and TJ Luxmore, who are by any definition also terrible

Over time, the NHL went from a league with 6-8 reliable, predictable but still kind of bad refs to a league with maybe two of those guys and an entire roster of refs who are some shade of untrustworthy and awful.
