2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

I get that Tarasov may have some upside he hasn't shown in Goalie Hell, aka Columbus. That said, I doubt the Panthers risk him as the primary backup right away.

I wondered what happened to that Frederic deal. It was reported last week and it just sort of sat there without an official announcement. Why on earth did they go the full 8 on a pretty expensive 4th liner?

Leafs re-sign Tavares, 4 years/$4.38 million AAV. Year 4 includes $2 million deferred. He has a NMC in the first 2 years, a 5 team trade list in the last 2.

For once the Leafs do get a true hometown discount, that's a pretty low AAV coming off his most recent season where the point totals were pretty solid. Career earnings over $130 million for Tavares so he can afford to leave some money on the table. Nice to see a player truly not want to uproot the family, I'm sure the agent could have found an extra couple of a million a season on the open market with a new team.

Noah Dobson to the Habs, a new 8 year x $9.5m for the contract. Trade cost Emil Heineman and two 2025 first round picks at 16 and 17.

Nice add for the Habs. They still need a 2nd line center and some reliable forwards capable of generating goals beyond just Suzuki and Caufield.

I'm lukewarm on Dobson at that AAV and costing 2 Firsts, but I'm completely open to the idea that he'll get better when he gets out of Long Island and away from their general mentality when it comes to their D. He really seemed quite lost at times this season. If nothing else, he's a huge upgrade over any of Montreal's D not named Carrier or Hutson and he gives them another option on the PP.

Honestly, no notes. You'd have probably preferred 3 years if you're the Leafs, but if they're letting Marner walk then locking in a still productive 2C in Tavaras was kind of a must.

For a guy that has only played 66 NHL games, Heineman gets around a lot.

October 2020 - Drafted by the Panthers, 2nd round #43 overall
April 2021 - Panthers trade his rights to Calgary with with a 2022 2nd rounder for Sam Bennett
February 2022 - Flames trade his rights, Tyler Pitlick and 2 picks to the Habs for Tyler Toffoli
April 2022 - Habs sign him to his entry deal
June 2025 - Habs trade him and 2 picks for the Islanders for Noah Dobson

Shady 80 joining the online rumor ranks suggesting something may be cooking with Sid the Kid in Pittsburgh this weekend to the Av’s…could our old friend Marty Nachos be moved again? Cleared out some good cap space in Colorado yesterday with Coyle and Wood, and Weekes is usually pretty dialed in with that stuff if he posts it…
