2024 Draft

Yes. Highest pick we can have next year is second overall if we make the playoffs.

Unless I'm missing something else.
It's so convoluted that I can't say for certain, but now that I re-read it, I think you're right.

Montreal Canadiens Acquire:

Sean Monahan
2025 1st round pick (CGY) [Conditional]*
*Conditions: 1. If CGY’s 2024 1st round pick is between 20 and 32, MTL can take that pick instead. Result: TBD

Scenario: In the event CGY receives FLA’s 2025 1st round pick:
1. If both CGY AND FLA’s picks are NOT top 10, MTL will receive the better of the CGY and FLA 2025 1st round picks. Result: TBD

2. If CGY’s pick is top 10, AND FLA’s pick is NOT top 10, MTL receives FLA’s pick. Result: TBD

Scenario: In the event CGY does NOT receive FLA’s 1st round pick:

Sub-scenario: CGY’s pick is NOT top 10
1. MTL will receive the CGY pick, and
2. If FLA’s pick is not top 10, is a better pick than CGY’s, and was transferred to another team due to prior conditions, MTL will also receive CGY’s 2025 4th round pick.
Result: TBD

Sub-scenario: CGY’s pick is top 10:
1. If CGY’s pick is 1st overall, MTL will receive CGY’s 2025 3rd, and the better of CGY and FLA’s 2026 1st round pick. Result: TBD
2. If CGY’s pick is 2nd to 10th, MTL receives CGY’s 2025 1st round pick. Result: TBD

I think he is referencing this for 2026

1. If CGY’s pick is 1st overall, MTL will receive CGY’s 2025 3rd, and the better of CGY and FLA’s 2026 1st round pick. Result: TBD

In theory we could get McKenna and a 3rd rounder...

That was a very dangerous move to a defenseless player already engaged in a puck battle.
It sure ended that way. But I argue that if it went as intended, and he knocked Ritchie off the puck shoulder-to-shoulder, it would've been viewed differently. I guess my point is, that I don't believe he was headhunting. But I do agree maybe he went in there a bit too aggressively. And it obviously cost him and inevitably, his team. This kid has some real issues to be concerned about. Although there are some myths (like shitting in a hockey bag). But in a pure hockey sense, he's a very talented player and from accounts is liked by his teammates. Just like Maillioux. There are issues, he's really young, and word is he's come a long way from the issues that were raised over a year ago. Guess we'll see how it all plays out in the end.

Exactly. Our optimum outcome is that it gets deferred to 2026 where there are ZERO conditions on the CGY pick. It's next year that is 1OA protected. And I don't even want to try and rehash the different conditions that will dictate the outcome, lol. Took some serious thinking and detail to make this trade. LOL

Calgary would have to win lotto in back to back years. Would be amazing though.

Demigod is also touted for his compete level without the puck and his strong work ethic -- both qualities that some scouts questioned about Michkov
As much as I hope Habs win Celebrini lottery, I’d prefer walking away from draft w Demigod + Eiserman

Mailloux was a 30tj overall pick. No issues with taking a chance on Connelly with Winnipeg pick, but no chance anyone is picking him top 10, even top 15 is a stretch

Worth a read because there really is no consensus after Celebrini.

Top 15:
1. Macklin Celebrini - C
2. Ivan Demidov - RW/C
3. Anton Silayev - D
4. Artyom Levshunov - D
5. Cayden Lindstrom - C
6. Sam Dickinson - D
7. Zayne Parekh - D
8. Zeev Buium - D
9. Konsta Helenius - C
10. Tij Iginla - LW
11. Berkly Catton - C
12. Carter Yakemchuk - D
13. Cole Eiserman - LW
14. Beckett Sennecke - RW
15. Trevor Connolly - LW
