2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

$13.8 mill of cap space left with:

Knies-Matthews-XXX
McMann-Xxx-Nylander
Cowan-Tavares-Domi
Laughton-Kampf-Krok

7 d and 2 goalies.

The have to dump Kampf and Krok. then they have lots of room to inrmproce the bottom 6. Not sure I see them bringing Holmberg and Robby back.

They’re crazy if they dump Robbie.
 
Marchand deal will be a disaster obviously but at this point just get him. Will be very very tough to ice a true contender next year without taking that swing I think. It's the least shit option I can find.
 
basically i just pencilled in Patches/Robby getting the Kampf/Krok money, and then signed a couple $1m 4th liners (lorentz and holmbger here but they could be anyone tbh).

That left us with ~$12.5m to fill one spot.

Honestly, it would be the most fun thing ever. Not sure I will be upset by whatever they’d give him.
 
Really hoping for a swerve on the first and Ehlers gets that Marchand money.

I know he doesn’t fit what everyone thinks of as the Berube type…..but having two 30 goal left wingers in Knies and Ehlers locked up, to go along with Matthews, Nylander and Tavares would be filthy…..plus he could be the long term answer as 2C and take over from Tavares if we moved him to wing.

Toss in Roy as the new 3C, and that’s a solid offseason.

Love Marchand though.

We need a rat with a clear mandate to get our nice guys over the hump.

Fun yeah. He's one of my favorite players ever. But it's gonna be gross to go long at a big aav for a 37 year old. Very rare to go much longer than that at an elite or semi elite level. Gio was playing top 4 caliber hockey when he got traded to the leafs. By the playoffs he was basically toast. Fell off a cliff. It happens fast.

But in saying that, I'm not about wasting a season and being shit this year. So fuck it. Grab the guy who was the best player in the NHL during the most recent playoffs.

I'd be afraid of that with Marchand but damn, I'd sure like to see him fuck with Marner.
