2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Common sense here and it's probably more of that then an actual report. Really didn't sound like Tre was close to anything when he spoke yesterday. He's gonna wait. And I do think they'll use up their cap space prior to training camp. Don't fuck it up, Bundy.

If we’re going the trade route, then there’s no reason for that extra cap space to be burning a hole in Treliving’s pocket prior to camp.

If a good trade does end up being there in the off-season, then sure, go for it.

Otherwise, there’s nothing wrong with going in to camp with what we’ve got, give some of our young guys an expanded opportunity and then see what shakes loose on the trade market during the season.

(Though Krok & Kampf still need to be fired out of a cannon ASAP)

It's tough to do big things in big games when you're perpetually roped to a puck dominant winger who spends his entire shift circling the outside of the danger area doing his best to avoid contact.

Auston deserves his share of the blame, but we have to look at what his share is. Auston turns into a 30-35G possesion dominant 2 way centre in big games, which isn't enough but is still a pretty good player, and he's generated some of the biggest goals these sad fucks have scored over that period. Game 6 this year to force game 7. The 1st goal of the close out game against the Sens this year. 3rd period GWG against the Bruins (Presto provided the video above) last year before missing the rest of the series with injury. Season saving goal against Columbus in game 4. Against Tampa in our close out game against them when we finally won a round.

Not enough for a player of his quality and cap hit. Not in line with McDavid or Mackinnon. But he's made a legitimate positive impact in a lot of our biggest games over the last bunch of years. Just can't say that about Mitch, and Auston has done it while dragging that version of Mitch around with him.

In big games, Auston turns into Anze Kopitar instead of what he should be. In those same games though, Mitch turns into Alex Kerfoot. Big, big fucking difference.

look I get it, and hell, Auston is the one with the Hart and 2 60 goal seasons. Next to that Mitch is much more ordinary; he will certainly never do either thing.

what I was referring to was mostly their mentality, which we will clearly never win with. that is the sea change I'm looking for. successful hockey in May and June will never be able to be played at the same tempo and intensity as a Thursday in January. ever. at nearing 28, he still has to learn to raise his game the way his erstwhile peers have. being the captain is also supposedly something he wanted and asked for, although it was hard to discern any difference this season from the prior ones to be honest. I didn't see a guy brimming with renewed confidence ready to write a new chapter and take the team on his back.

if what you're saying is, let's see what he does with linemates that aren't perimeter chickenshit puck hogs who don't score a ton, then yeah there's some merit to that. I'll have to see who that is exactly but I think there is a part of this where the 34/16 combo has been around so long teams basically scouted them into the ground. There's a world where with different players that actually make room for him on the ice and/or being more the primary puckhandler on his own line leads to better things. he is a way better passer than his assist totals have shown thus far.

The Marco Rossi situation might be something to keep an eye on.

Minnesota issued a qualifying offer to Rossi on Monday. By issuing the offer, teams are given the right of first refusal or draft choice compensation should the player sign an offer sheet with another team.

“I’m not concerned,” Guerin said Tuesday. “We’re prepared. We will match. It’s not an issue with us. I think when you’ve seen (offer sheets) in the past that have been successful, maybe the teams weren’t fully prepared for it. But yeah, we’re prepared for it.

“We’d rather make a deal with Marco.”

Rossi, 23, had 60 points (24 goals, 36 assists) in 82 games for the Wild last season and three points (two goals, one assist) in six Stanley Cup Playoff games. He largely played a top-six role until the postseason, when he was moved to the fourth line following a drop in production.

Selected by Minnesota in the first round (No. 9) of the 2020 NHL Draft, Rossi has 101 points (45 goals, 56 assists) in 185 regular-season games.

Guerin said the team and Rossi’s agents remain at odds over his contract value.

"We like Marco, he had a very good year for us,” Guerin said. “He's a good hockey player, but we have a structure in our pay that we have him slotted in at a certain level, and that's just the way we're doing our business. This is nothing personal. We want them back, and we'll hopefully get to a resolution sooner than later."

Guerin added that extending forward Kirill Kaprizov’s contract remains the No. 1 priority this offseason. The 28-year-old forward can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025-26 season, when the five-year, $45 million contract ($9 million average annual value) he signed on Sept. 21, 2021, ends.

Rossi was given legit #2C duty all regular season.

Ek 19:46, 55pt pace
Rossi 18:15, 60pt pace
Gaudreau 15:40, 37pt pace
Hartman 14:58, 30pt pace

but that changed drastically come playoffs

Ek 22:00, 41pt pace
Hartman 17:26, 82pt pace
Gaudreau 14:27, 0pt pace
Rossi 11:08, 41pt apce

please just get rid of Kampf/Krok/Reaves so i can have some peace of mind.
I don't think they want Pezzetta in the lineup. And they didn't end up adding another forward to the top six like they hoped.

Tre is conservative. He's probably going to wait until the replacement is in before shedding NHL bodies. As much as we don't love Kampf and Jarn, they're still infinitely better than Pezzetta, and he's likely guarding against the downside.
