2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Just sucks that this free agency class is kinda shit. Bruins basically gave away Thornton for nothing, and it set them up for a cup but they used his cap space on Savard and Chara.

The best C and D in FA this year are Bennett and Ekblad though.

They gotta find a way to get Dobson.

I dont think they can get Dobson without Nylander or Knies.

Their system is too shit.

Its almost a given that no matter what they do this team on paper will be less talented and worse, which is kind of the style you are married to with Berube in charge.

I think youll be okay swapping out Marner and Tavares for less a less skilled but also less perimeter winger, and a less skilled but faster C. My biggest worry would be if the team thinks the D is fine and they dont need puck movers in the Berube system. Rielly is the only one thats even close to that, and he might be a nightmare. I keep going back to them thinking they needed Laughton ( 4th line W posing as a C with no offensive chops) and Carlo ( literal tree, that was once really good but might be dying, and has zero puck skills like the rest of the D)

They also drafted brilliantly after that trade. We have no picks.

Why wouldn't he have chosen the Leafs over Florida at the deadline if both options were available? I don't think there was any reason to think Florida was a heavy favorite or anything (at that time it wasn't even clear that they wouldn't be playing TB), and I don't think he went there for a couple months of sun.

He keeps saying he's been a Leaf fan all his life, and now EF and everyone here is saying he's trying hard to pave his way to us in the offseason. It makes zero sense that he'd want to join us next season but didn't prefer to come over this season when it was a better situation. Why step into the minefield that we've got now? If anything, I have strong doubts he would consider it now.
Stop lamenting, he chose Florida.

Last year's was better imo
this is likely true. I've been numb all year. which prevented me from emotionally investing like I normally do. which meant no real super emotional hot takes the past couple days. just fucking resignation.

pretty sure I said last offseason that so long as shanny stays, all else is moot. the shanaplan has failed. until we move on, no point getting too invested. so I stand by that. but the longer we go down the shanaplan road, the more likely it is that you gotta throw the baby out with the bathwater... or at least that is how it feels right now.

No one knows what bigger losers the Leafs are than Marchand, it shouldnt be shocking if he wanted no part of it.

Florida is the class of the NHL

Why hasn't someone spoken to the Leafs about NOT saying they need to learn a lesson or have learned a lesson?
