2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Spanish Olives stuffed with Anchovies is my crack. These are the greatest thing to have with a nice beer.

most olives available in north america are... inferior to good olives. in my experience at least.

some things you just need to consume locally to have them at their best. lemongrass is another good example.

When we were in Barcelona last year there are a few things I ate there that made me realize I haven’t actually had the real deal before, even tho I’ve eaten each thousands of times..
dates
olives
cherries

eating those 3 things there, fucking ruined me on them when I got back.
Okanagan cherries are legit IMO.

then again, the local NS cherries have looked so sad this year I have not bought a single one :(

Funny story.. about 2 weeks ago went to Costco for a few things but specifically cherries..there was a stack of American cherries and a stack of Canadian ones… I was going through the Canadian stack and there were 3 people going thru the American stack.. I promptly told them hey this stack is Canadian.. they all went to the Canadian stack… came home, opened them up and had to return them they were all shit lol.. and yes I’m an inspection freak and it got past me..
BC cherries

Cherries in general in the GTA have been shit this year

Wish trade stuff wasn't shit between our countries right now bc Washington and California cherries have been really good this season. Don't know as much about what's going on with Oregon's crop, but likely good, too.

Yeah, the cherries in LA this year have been the best they’ve been in the 25 years I’ve been here.

And also black olives are fantastic.

I remember being in Kenya and eating a bit of honeydew melon and being surprised at how great it tasted.

Avocados in Mexico >>>>>

I barely even like avocado here, you have to hit a crazy short sweet spot of ripeness here for them to be 80-90% as good as they are in Mexico all of the time. Basically right on the edge of overripe and starting to go brown. They're crack in Mexico though. Any mercado, any time, fucking perfect.
