Just reading this and the reason for the lack of depth scoring in the playoffs is all management incompetence.

This is the list of players they passed up/let go:

2015: Konecny (traded down in draft), Verhaghe for Grabner
2017: Bozak/JVR to sign Zaitsev and Marleau
2019: Kadri for Barrie/Kerf, Jarvis (traded pick to dump Marleau)
2021: Hyman
2022: McCann over Holl

If Shanny had kept any of those guys he might still have a job.

Also, he naively thought his young core would take less money for the good of the team… so Leafs lost cap flexibility by waiting till the last minute to sign guys like Nylander and Marner.
