2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

There are 6 NHL teams that play in states with zero state income tax

Stars, Panthers, Lightning, Predators, Kraken, Golden Knights

Since 2017, they make up 9 of the 16 total appearances in the SC finals (with a real possibility of that becoming 11 of 18 in a week or so) and of course 4 of the last 8 titles over those same years....If Florida or Dallas wins this year, that will make it 5 of the last 6 SC winners being from a tax free state.

So either some sort of incredible coincidence is going on here, or it's an unfair advantage in a system designed to promote parity and needs to be addressed.
I've said for years that the NHL needs an equalization formula to level the financial playing field. But there seems to be no sense of urgency to do this because the only teams really getting screwed are in Canada, where fans will show up whether their teams win or not. Until some formula is adopted where a dollar earned in Vegas or Miami is worth the same on the cap as a dollar earned in Vancouver or Montreal, this trend will keep happening.

Eliminating the President position is a good move if you dont want to fire Tre/Berube, because hiring a President and not letting him make changes is a fucking terrible idea and look, and frankly so is promoting anyone to the position internally. Pelley can do all the suit shit and do it quietly cause the average fan doesnt know who the fuck he is.

i doubt they eliminate it.

I also think that they probably don't want to rush to name a new president, and firing brad right now would really force them to rush to get an entire front office in place.

I'd guess promoting Brad to president is an option they'd consider, but i think they'll probably do a thorough analysis and search for a president too.

I've always said... make one "tax" for all teams.... an average of all the markets. New York collects it and pays the income tax to the state or province out of the collected amounts to the govt of each place.

Like revenue sharing but for taxes.
it's not up to the league. the players are at the mercy of the various laws in both US and Canada, and the tax treaty between the two

legit don't think the money has anything to do with it. front office salaries are a rounding error - which is probably what led to the bloat in the first place.
From talking to people inside MLSE they are pinching pennies. They have not had the success that was baked into plan and are looking to make up for it in salaries. Strategically they have removed the president role from 3 of 4 teams so far and I would be surprised if Masai wasn't next on the chopping block.
