Pelley...but yes, hopefully.

We made so, so many dogshit decisions after drafting the kids. Fucked everything up in the leafiest way possible. Put the worst mentors around them, a psychologically abusive coach, an organization that immediately fucking blinked and started pivoting away from a style of play that would get the most out of their talents.

People are going to point at the 3 kids for not getting it done, but it took a fucking village to fuck this up.

The fact that they didn't try to lean into being the most dazzling offensive team in history, and instead had to fill up the rest of the roster with plugging shit to be gritty or fart loud or whatever they bring to the table, will be one of the most tragic mysteries of our lifetimes.

And that was the big mistake. They should've shut him down for however long it took.

They knew this was a make it or break it year, and they let him play as much as he wanted like nothing was at stake.

Did he force them in search of trying to notch another 69 goal season, or did they just go along with it?

You and I don't agree much, but we agree on this. Always lean into your advantage. We had 3 kids who were likely to become top 10-15 offensive talents in the league. Add as much speed and puck moving as possible and get a goalie. Tinker from there, but that should have been the first 5 years of this. A fucking track meet.

And this was the year they lucked into having Knies, McMann, and Robertson (making $3M combined) all on the roster and doing well, giving us a full line of fast guys who can score. But they had to go get Laughton. They had to get Carlo. They had to scratch Robertson whenever they could to play guys that stink. They had to keep trash like Kampf and Jarn and Reaves and Cockinpaw all on the roster instead of bringing up a couple cheap kids and using the savings to go add some more speed and scoring.

Not sure I can come back after this. This is actual trauma as much as sports can cause for a spectator. Totally killed my spirit and is going to depress me all summer that this is going to lead to a massive exodus where we lose star players for nothing and can never replace them.
 
Seriously, two 1sts, Minten, and Grebs for Laughton and Carlo.

When instead we could've just had Minten and Grebs playing and saved those picks, dumped our bottom line trash and gone and added some really good offensive D in the offseason, and had a better team.
 
Carlo btw looked fucking terrible to me, also i like alot of what Simon Benoit does, but if he leads your D in ice time in the playoffs, great googally moogally thats gross.

Rielly has always been a guy where you accept his bonehead stupidity because he offsets it with some brilliant rushes and offensive play, the latter appears to have evaporated and all you have left is a massive liability that can skate good.

Should have everything they could to convince/pursue Marchand.

Its possible he only wanted Florida, but its also possible these idiots thought Carlo and Laughton were more important priorities.

I 100% believe they thought Laughton and Marchand were roughly equal, and that they're getting Laughton for next year at $1.5M rather than having nothing to show for a 1st if dealt for Marchand. There's no convincing me otherwise. And I think Marchand 100% would've come to the Leafs if they went hard after him, or even if they didn't - they didn't want him.

I can believe Marchand only wanted Florida

But i can also believe the Leaf brass are fucking morons who think they need toughness every trade deadline.
