2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

We had our most success as an org in the modern era when Pat Quinn stood in front of the mediots and picked fights with all of them, made it about him.

Yeah, the organization needs to play a role in shaping the media narrative in the city and they just don't. We made noises with our mouths about it at the beginning of this process with Babcock talking about making this a safe place to play and all of that but it really didn't last long before we were pushing a couple 22-23 yr olds out in front of the cameras and having them speak to why it's their fault for continuing on 50+ years of failure in this city.

But I also think its BS. The Leafs don't need a vet winner. That ship has long sailed. They are a vet team now. They need to shakeup the core. The cumulative failure weighs on these guys and they cannot perform in big games. They expect to lose rather than believe they will win the cup. Its not going to just go away by getting an old guy for the bottom 6.
 
Ya some old guy that won before isn't going to fix anything because he says particular words to the core. It's a ridiculous narrative that never makes any sense to me.

That's exactly the point. An old guy for the bottom 6 is useless.

A Crosby to be the 1B, with Tavares moving to the wing, is the answer, but one we can't pull off.

Oh, 100%. They needed a vet winner 5 years ago. It's too late to salvage this now. Take the capspace and retool. This core has failed, time to move on from it.

I don't know, getting a veteran player that will run through a wall to win could get some of these C's and A's into the fight. Wish we could get enough stem cells to put Gary Roberts on Matthews wing.

I think Marchand could've been the guy this year. Removing him from the Panthers and adding him to us gets us to the finals at the bare minimum. Fuck this management group for preferring Laughton, and not even trying for Marchand. I'll never believe that he only wanted to go to Florida.
 
Sign and trade Marner for Crosby, sign Marchant and you have 2/3 of your second line for 2/3 the cost of Marner.
