And yet the only one going nuts here is LOF. And he should because he's definitely made himself a target with his fanboy takes on Marner and Tavares. But I'm not hating on the Leafs anymore. I wish I could but that simple joy has been ruined. The Leafs are so inept now that they move me more toward pity than enmity and I hate feeling pity for them. I would like them to get back to a level where they are competent enough for me to loathe once again. I actually WANT them to improve because trolling them right now is like making fun of the mentally disabled. It cannot be enjoyed.

Fortunately I can still drag LOF and his dumb takes with abandon. That will suffice for now. But I'm interested to see what the summer holds for this team. A change would be a welcome change from the umpteenth year of "we're running it back!"

There is no universe in which Mitch feels he owes anything at all to Leaf fans.

He probably believes that Leaf fans owe it to him to rise up en-masse to demand that the Leafs offer him the captaincy and make him the highest-AAV player in the league by a wide margin on an eight-year deal with a full, ironclad NMC. And is deeply offended that they haven't.
 
Giving-up those assets at the deadline really burns us now. We have so little to trade.
The "Run-it-back" argument exists now because there's almost no other options.
