Hard to envision Marner playing ball and making it any more palatable to let him go.

He always intended to sign a contract and stay.
This was just a money play, using whatever leverage he had to get the most he could get.
And he misplayed it by overestimating how things would go for him in the playoffs.

It's wild how much you're turning yourself into a pretzel thinking he wants to stay in Toronto so bad. All we know is that he didnt want to pickup and get traded to Carolina mid season.
