2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

I really appreciate LOF’s annual unwavering optimistic faith that the greatest and perhaps only desire of a pending Leaf free agent is to be a Maple Leaf for the rest of their careers and happily accept a discounted deal.

I’m honestly even kind of jealous of that ability, tbh.

So all this time his endgame has been to leave the Leafs and get complete anonymity and no pressure somewhere, while getting max pay of $14M?

No, his plan was to stay with the Leafs, but he didn't want the money demand of $14M to make waves in-season since that would make him paid more than Matthews. He left it for the offseason, never expecting the shitstorm that ultimately came, which eliminates the possibility of a $14M payday here, maybe anywhere, and now he needs to deal with a completely different landscape. Would the Leafs bring him back at all, and if they did, at what price? That's his new reality.

And if he knew this was coming, he would've taken the $13.5M if they offered it, and now he'd just be dealing with pressure from media and fans to waive it and go somewhere else, which, like Rielly, he could brush off without any concern.

Not so much for non-Toronto born players.

It's a joke, from a movie, and the people using that language are specifically written as complete idiots to show the degradation of intelligence in human society in the future and that's exactly what I was going for with the joke. Anyone who has seen the movie, would get the joke.

I appreciate why you're sensitive about the word, but please don't police my shit. You know that if I do use sensitive words or terms it's done ironically.

That’s fair but if I’m going to say it about the use of the word, I'm not going to just ignore it because its you and you’re using it ironically or to prove a point. I don’t use th N word full stop period either and will call it out when used. Do I actually think your use was nefarious? Nope. However, the word has come back and is rampantly used now and not saying anything is a disservice to people who are hurt by its use. I won’t apologize for advocating against it ever.
