2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

He never wanted to leave and never will. The only way he does is if they don't want him.
You're like the last refuge clinging to the idea that Mitch, the Toronto boy loves being a Maple Leaf more than anything. It's clear to me that's not true and he's been coached ( poorly mind you) on what to say to the media. I honestly think outside of Johnny No Soul the come home to Toronto desire is not really much of a thing anymore. I think guys will come if paid accordingly, this isnt a Winnipeg situation, but i dont think there is this inherent desire to come win a cup at home at all costs anymore.

Exactly. LOF is projecting his values on to Marner, a man he has never met and knows nothing about save for his public persona, which pretty much everyone not named LOF saw through a long time ago. Marner doesn't give a shit about being a Leaf unless he gets paid what he wants. And what he wants is to be paid more than Matthews, which is preposterous on its face. If MLSE even offers him a contract they need their heads examined. He is a loser and a cancer on a team that already has too many losers and cancers.

Get. Rid. Of. Him.

Does anyone truly feel we should re-sign Mitch? JT I would keep as long as the aav is low.

The only way I’d have any interest in signing him is if he signed for the same amount he’s currently making or less, and most importantly, if his deal had either limited or no trade protection.

But my honest preference at this point is that I just want him gone.

Nope. Count me out on any amount. Don’t want to see him back at all. He won’t take a discount so that’s not even worth discussing imo.

Tavares can take the Spezza special to be 3C/2W.

Time for some change around here. Bring the same losers back year after year is getting old.

I feel exactly the same way. That’s why the key in my scenario is the lack of complete trade protection. At least that way we can get something of value in return for him instead of losing him for nothing. I’d be ruthless too and trade him partway through year #1 of the deal.

But that’s a fantasy scenario that’s really a waste of time to discuss. Bottom line is Mitch isn’t accepting any deal that doesn’t come with an ironclad NMC and that isn’t an obscene overpayment that ignores his comparables.

Hopefully he gets that in a place like San Jose or Utah and not here.
