2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

it will probably end up being a lot closer to running it back than people like.

our GM is average, and he has very little he's willing to part with that we're aware of.

the best thing he can do is NOT sign a bunch of middling players for too long. It's throwing good money after bad at this point. I doubt they have the courage to even walk away from Tavares, but we'll see next week.
For the Leafs' sake one hopes that Treleving has more courage than LOF and Preston.

Run it back

Why?

He's a 50 point player in the playoffs. How can we not replace that with 11 million dollars? Everyone else seems to be able to manage to find guys chipping in a those rates for way cheaper than 11 million dollars.
Why mention $11m when talking about next year? You could replace his production by bringing in himself at a fraction of last year's price.

You're getting the same guy at $5m or whatever instead of $11m, when he probably gets $8m on the open market, so why do you want to go outside the organization to either take a flier on a guy who hasn't done what he's done but nerdies say might or pay much more to get a guy who has done it. If he's coming off a super successful year and willing to sign at well below his own market value, it's peak idiocy to walk away from that opportunity.

I get your point but Pizza boy better nail this offseason

Rest of the league knows its the Leafs summer of desperation, need a culture and new DNA

You have to get to the playoffs and you just cant replace 175 points ( 16 and 91 ) with consolation prizes and fillers hoping they produce

Dynamics have changed this summer , more teams in need to win now or make playoffs mode and moving to the cap exploding stage

Regime fucked up waiting too long for change before the no move clauses kicked in

I hope it works out but desperation usually leads to irrational decisions

I like OEL too, but they have to find a way to get a couple good forwards. Ideally centers.

Trading any of our non Mcacbe/Tanev D makes a lot of sense because we are deep in 4/5 dmen and there are no good dmen in UFA outside of Ekblad.

I would not be surprised if that 14.5/yr Columbus offer was made up by Marner’s camp to drive up the price for a place he wants to go. Much like the “Mitch is on a plane to go sign an offer sheet” rumours from 2019. Guess we’ll see if anyone gets played like Dubas did last time.

It also helps Marner look like less of a mercenary if he signs with a contender for around Rantanen money.
