2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

I can see one staying as a 13th forward, but one either goes to the Marlies or doesn't make it through waivers after camp.

We’ll see. We all figured one had to be gone before the start of last season, but Treliving found a way.

And this year, it wouldn’t even be particularly difficult. If we go with a full 23-man roster (14F, 7D, 2G) that includes Kampfkrok on the NHL roster and all the waiver-exempt kids (including Cowan) sent down, it looks to me like everyone fits.

I don't think most expected him gone last year. He still was clearly slotted in as 4C.

Now that we have Roy and Laughton, Kampf is completely expendable and a massive waste of $2.4M. Berube also basically healthy scratched him the whole last playoffs. He is as gone as gone can be, without actually having left yet.

lol what love? he gets some special attention as a family member of ME, but the org clearly has at best, a strong dislike for the guy

Here's some reasons why I love Nicky....

- Over the last 3 years (min 80gp), he's 28th in the league in 5v5 G/60, with a 12.9% shooting percentage. Ahead of Hintz, Jack Hughes, Knies, Ehlers, Vilardi, Kaprizov, Rantanen, Connor fucking McDavid. Without playing with top 6 linemates.

For the eye testers...54% of the goals scored while he was on the ice over those 3 seasons went into the right net. Higher than gud pros Pacioretty & Laughton, higher than safe no event specialists like Kerfoot, etc...so whatever you think you're seeing happen on the ice because Nic Robertson is small, soft and bad defensively is mostly a figment of your imagination or at minimum, what he does to help put the puck in the other net outweighs it fairly significantly.

- He draws penalties at the same rate Willy does and overall provides a 2-1 penalties drawn to taken advantage.

- For all of the talk of his turnover problem, his takeaway/giveaway ratio is neutral. Mitch, Tavares, Knies, Domi, McMann, Laughton all negative to heavily negative

- Blocks shots at a higher rate than the gritty Bertuzzi, Knies, McMann, Domi, ROR & Bunting. Also higher than Tavares, Nylander, Jarnkrok, Kampf, Pacioretty, & Kerfoot. 5x the rate that Engvall blocked as a Leaf. Fucking hits more than Bertuzzi, Holmberg, Jarnkrok, Matthews, Engvall, Kerfoot, 2x Marner, Domi, ROR & Nylander.

Just give him a fucking opportunity and stop holding him to a special set of standards that no one else in the organization seems to get held to.

He plays a game, doesn't score, and then gets benched. He comes back, scores in his first game, does nothing in his second or third game, and then gets benched.

Rinse, and repeat.

Why exactly are we holding him to a standard where he’s literally not allowed to go longer than two consecutive games without scoring a goal before he ends up in the press box?

He got his biggest opportunity this year and was pretty bad. At this point he has to take some blame here for not showing up consistently.

The hope was that if you give him consistent third line minutes and PP time he would take it and run with it and never look back. But thats not what materialized.

He has to be much better next year.
