2025-26 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Yeah, it's a calculated risk but I think it makes sense. Slavin at 85% (or whatever) helps you, but you risk re-injury ... again ... and the goal is not to win a Division or whatever. The goal is the Cup and so long as you comfortably stay in the playoff picture, every day he gets to heal up helps the big picture.

As Slavin's absence lingers into December, at some point, maybe even publicly, the questions about whether or not Slavin should be playing for Team USA in the Olympics should be starting.

The Olympic rosters have to be finalized by 12/31. If his absence stretches too far into December, he might not be considered at all. Which is fine with me.

And Slavin is 💯 a great human being to the core and seems as unselfish as they come, so if he feels his best course of action is focused on his Canes long term health and well being I think he would be fine with taking a pass on the Olympics.

This. It's not that I don't care at all, but I don't really care.

The argument against professionals in the Olympics is what is more important to them. Would a hockey player rather win a god medal or the Stanley Cup? What’s more important to Michael Jordan, 2 gold medals or 6 NBA Championships. If it’s the latter, they shouldn’t be playing in the Olympics.

Who deemed that it has to be so black and white, that you have to pick one over the other? And even if you do, there's nothing that says you can't excel at both.

I remember the days of amateurs in the Olympics. Yeah, the Germans and Russians especially. I’d prefer amateurs competing. I thought Eddie the Eagle was the perfect amateur as he paid his own way.

It doesn’t have to be one over the other. But what goes first in the obituary, 6 time NBA Champion or 2 time gold medalist?

That was BSing reporters goes the story I know.
Of course it was…. My buddy Gravley shot the video and posted about it after Charles’ passing. It’s no big deal just a funny moment in sports interviews much like the dumb ceiling is the roof Jordan said. People say dumb crap all the time. Especially me

Anyway we got off-topic here. Sorry Andy Jeff and mods 🤣

I love State fans getting all defensive about that interview with Shack like his vocabulary is somehow a reflection on them. The guy was an Olympic level dingbat, so people may as well deal with it. The guy injured his wrist SLEEPING ON IT on an airplane and got lost on a mile run ... on campus. A Rhodes Scholar, he was not ... nor a roads scholar ... pause for rimshot. As for other things State fans of the era get sensitive about, Lo Charles DID steal from his pizza delivery guy and Chris Washburn DID break into that apartment. Oh, and Andy Kennedy (current coach at UAB) DID steal jewelry he had out on installment when he left school after his freshman season.

Jarvis is pretty much out for Olympics, right?
The pundits all seem to have Tom Wilson destined for a Team Canada spot since this tournament will not be played on Olympic size ice but the NHL dimensions. Also the Celebrini and Bedard wagons are getting hitched to Team Canada right now so it might be a harder sell for the Jarvis and Cirelli types in the end for Team Canada despite their stellar Four Nations play.

I’ve never gotten the defensiveness either. State Carolina and Duke have all had their fair share of numbnuts and great human beings.
