2025-26 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Giving up Nikishin for the RIGHT forward would be fine. But obviously if you could get that deal done without including him, then you do that.

That said, specific players in packages on rumor sites isn’t worth worrying about. And I see no way the Blues trade Thomas without getting a first rounder in the deal.

I agree Jeffbear. As much as it looks like Nikishin will be a great with his shot he really needs to work on his gaps. Slavin is probably the best in the league so is a bit extreme looking that way. But yea, I think this team is lacking a big piece down the middle. Stankoven looks like he is really starting to win draws but the size thing may be the difference. And yes again. It would be much better not to have to lose Nikishin. I'd be okay losing Nadeau if you need a piece now. This team looks like they have matured quite a bit, especially after last year in the playoffs against Florida. I think this might be the year for our Canes!

Well, this year looks more open for sure. Tampa’s been almost as big a bugaboo for Carolina as their Florida compatriots in dirtbaggery, but the Canes match up very, very well agains the better teams in the West. This is a much more realistic open window than last year, when I really think they maxed out what they had on the roster.

I'm really liking the core players' maturity, added size, and depth. You never know, but with size, a maturing mind and body, we might be in for something special against all teams—including the dirtbaggery. Slavin is rested and seems to be putting the puck at the net more often. Ghost is turning into a superstar. Aho has a smart, deep-burning fire going inside that's starting to come out. Staal, who is really fitting in with the offense now on the power play, and Martinook—combined with Ehlers so far—have completely changed the optics of this line. Now it's more about keeping things moving and let's score! Size and determination on the fourth line, with depth waiting in the wings like Legault (who's big, plays his gaps well, and is there) along with Nadeau, Nystrom, and other maturing core players in the minors. I can't forget the so-called second line with the veteran presence of Taylor Hall—who, by the way, is seventh on the team in scoring. They still won when they were down several players this year, and that's unity and depth.
I could go on, but I'm really liking this year's team. Oh, and what about Svech... Wow

The entire cart of popcorn probably cost 30 bucks. So 2 or 3 buckets pays for the cart 😂. I have a buddy that used to be a buyer for concessions down here in Fayetteville and he confirmed popcorn is like printing money in the concession game

Jarvis said he hasn’t heard from Hockey Canada regarding the Olympics except that he’s still in the reserve group. Anthony Cirelli left Sunday’s game early, Braydon Point has been out since mid-January. Sam Bennett was named as Cirelli’s replacement today.

Meanwhile Florida continues to struggle for a wildcard spot...so another Panther burned out for the NHL stretch drive is ok with most Eastern Conference bound teams...

I know he’d love to go, but I’m more than OK with Jarvis getting some rest and getting healthy for the stretch run.

That’s what happens when you expect perfection you’re rarely satisfied
I don’t expect perfection. But the moral of the story is to take the larger view a little more, because from one game to the next, it doesn’t feel like 25 of 30 points.

Sure doesn’t feel like it though.
It doesn’t, but that’s what can happen when you have a well structured, cohesive roster in a league where a lot of teams have a cobbled together mess. It’s a little ironic that the Canes have played their worst territorial hockey with a relatively healthy roster, but mentally you bear down a bit when you’re playing with less than the full compliment of guys. You want to talk proof of concept for how Carolina has built their rosters though, this stretch since Christmas makes the case. They’ve built a team that can grind out points even when they don’t have their fastball.

And over an entire season all they do is win and that’s all they have to do. It’d be different if it was November. They’ve shown over 56 games now they can win almost any way possible. Grind it out, score 10, get lucky…not sure what else people want. Just keep winning

I'm trying to think of a reason why, 1 day away from the final game before the trade freeze, the Canes would care if we made a trade we wanted before the Olympic trade freeze or after?

The only differences at this point are:

* If the trade SUBTRACTS from our cap hit, we would bank more cap room over the next 3 weeks than we would if we waited

* If we are trading away a player who is going to play in the Olympics, we want to do so BEFORE they potentially get injured playing for their Country

Unless the trade is just a dump of Freddie or KK, I don't really see any trade we make leaving us with a smaller cap hit.

As far as Olympic injury goes, only Freddie would potentially fall into that category, and what other NHL team would even consider making a trade that involved Freddie right before the Olympics?

None of that makes sense to me, so I'm calling BS on Pierre Lebrun's comment (if he really made that comment).
