2025-26 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

More details on the parade Saturday including parking and transit info.

That $2.50 Day pass on Go Raleigh looks enticing

We come from the Cary end of Hillsborough Street for all those Christmas parades and my preference for parking is somewhere around that St Marys street area because it's easier to get out of that downtown core area after the fact. I think were going to do that early and then if we have to hoof it down to the parade stage area so be it!

This, or something like it, is the way to go IMO. If it was me, I’d probably park in one of the decks off Blount Street (at Moore Square or down near Lincoln Theater) and hoof it over. That’s what we normally do for festivals and stuff downtown. I don’t mind a little bit of a walk if I can get out when I want. St Marys works too, or maybe Smoky Hollow.

We’re going to try to park in the City Center garage, my wife did something to her knee on Sunday so I’ll drop her at City Plaza so she can hold some space for us while I wander around the parade route.

My friend that built Steampunk Stanley is still trying to hold Marty to the promise he made when the Marty Party beer was launched. Marty told him he wanted that trophy with him in a parade.

Yeah, I was going to suggest that City Center Deck as well. It gets overlooked when stuff is happening on Fayetteville St.

My son was much younger when this was taken but we loved seeing that Cup!!!
My friend decided to build that after the outdoor game. Stanley made his debut in the 2023 playoffs, the tap wasn’t added until the next season.

The Canes played the Islanders in the first round of the 2023 playoffs. There was a contingent of Islanders fans nearby who saw it and asked if they could bring some friends over to see it. A few minutes later, they rolled in with their friends; Carson Daly, John Tonelli and Jon Ledecky, one of the Islanders co-owners. None of them would touch it, even Tonelli, who won 4 of the real things in the 80s. Carson Daly? Just a hockey dad, nice guy.

That thing looks like a tank and must be pretty heavy to haul around...even Rod the Bod might need a little extra oomph to do the lift on that old girl!!!

It’s the correct height and circumference, he contacted Phil Pritchard to get those dimensions right. It weighs 160 lbs. Fortunately, he added 2 nuts on either side (you can see one of them to the left of the tap) and threaded 2 steel rods so it could be carried. He also built a wooden cradle for it to ride in, so loading and unloading from his minivan is pretty easy. The plate and legs are 2 separate pieces and they're not light either.
