2025-26 Hurricanes Prospects and Minors Thread

That guy has the appearance of actually being plugged in, but you never know on that app … especially when it comes to Russia.
 
I haven't found anything anywhere else confirming that Ryabkin is going the 'Defected player' route (or will be loaned by the Canes to Russia). I do a check every few weeks to update the prospect list with accurate team assignments, if this is really happening it will show up somewhere that I will catch.
 
It's always better to have these goalie prospects playing in North America where they actually can get playing time rather than kicking around in Russian or Euro 2nd or 3rd tier leagues where they can get buried as a 3rd goalie and never play.

A reminder that Yegor Velmakin was a 7th round pick...so if he flames out in the AHL/ECHL or even ends up back in Russia, he was a total wildcard to begin with.

Yeah … Ryabkin’s ELC contract with the Hurricanes slid a year in 25-26 and now runs until July 2029, according to Puckpedia. If he IS going to play for Dynamo in the KHL then he’ll either have to be loaned to them by the Canes with a specified term and whatever loan fee they’ll agree to or he’ll have to break his contract to be a defected player. As I understand it, that freezes his NHL rights, but relieves the Hurricanes from any payment obligations. We’ll find out one way or the other eventually.
