2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

What kind of monsters did y'all go to? My "procedure" couldn't have gone more routinely. (He says while reminding readers his comments are based on recollections that are more than 20 years old!)
 
Steve Rinella was talking about his. He was all numbed up and the doc working on him was doing what he does and said “uh oh”. You never wan to hear the doc say that down there.

I got shocked in the sack by the cauterizing tool they used. I nearly jumped off the table! My painless 15 minutes procedure was an hour, and far from painless. Doc said my vas were thin and stringy, and he was afraid he was going to lose them in me, and we'd be required to rush to the OR if it happens.
 
My best friend's nephew had his done when he was in the military. The doctor dropped the forceps when the nephew was clamped off. Ouch! It laid him up for a while too. Now, he's listed as a disabled vet and aside from a handicapped parking hanger, he gets government contracts at work because he is qualified as a "disabled vet". Sheesh. Talk about playing the system. Ain't that a kick in the nuts?

How drunk is the Eastern Conference right now? The Red Wings are atop the Atlantic Division yet are a -6 in goal differential. I'm thinking that a very large course correction will be taking place after the 3 week Olympics break.
 
Tampa, Ottawa and Florida are all significantly ahead of Detroit in expected goal percentage, and that generally does impact the point totals over time. Boston are the real magicians so far. 27th in expected goal percentage, but they've been solidly in a playoff spot all season. Goaltending will bend that metric some, but mostly it's just gutting out points in close games.

And before any of you eye test guys come for me over using a fancy stat metric, Colorado is significantly ahead of the league in expected goal percentage. I think the eye test will back that one up as will their +48 goal diff after 30 games. They are just cruising through their schedule right now and it appears 100% sustainable.
 
Tristin Jarry and F Samuel Poulin to Edmonton for Stuart Skinner, D Brett Kulak and a 2029 2nd round pick.

I mean, why claim a guy off of waivers in January 2025 when you can trade a 2nd round pick for him in December 2025 instead?
 
Poulin is just playing out the string on an expiring contract that is unlikely to be extended. He's managed 15 NHL games in 5 pro seasons. So unless there was a pressing need for him in the A, that's just a roster move. So, it boils down to Jarry for Skinner, Kulak and a 2nd. Kulak is a bog standard stay at homer in the last year of a bargain bin contract. He's better than a couple of the Pens' options on the left side of their D, so ... cool. Skinner is Skinner and the Pens should be used to that since he's basically Goalie Ned with higher highs and lower lows ... and they put up with Ned for two erratic years recently. The key is that Skinner is out of contract in June whereas Jarry's equally unpredictable but less volatile butt is signed for two more seasons after this one. The (likely) middle of the round 2nd is the only asset the Pens are gonna still have come July 1, you'd think.

For Edmonton, this is a risk worth taking. Yeah, Jarry is all over the place but he's been pretty decent this season, hanging out on the plus side of the goals expected per 60 column for the first time in several years. But the Oilers HAD to do SOMETHING in net, and trotting Skinner out there like a real live starter was starting to drag their whole program down the drain. And even when Jarry is bad, he's nowhere near as bad as Skinner at HIS worst. And waiting to see if you could do better later sounds good if you're not the one watching your goalie sink your team deeper and deeper into the muck.
 
I did NOT see Quinn Hughes going to the Minn Wild. That caught everyone off guard. Elliot Freidman says it's a done deal.
