2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Just catching up on scores from last night. The devils were embarrassing last night. Hughes was a -3 last night and a -5 in his last 2. No wonder he’s being booed out of the arena. Islanders curb stomped them 9-0

And Keefe left Markstrom out to dry leaving him for all 9 goals against...that alone is a shitty thing to do in a game like that.

Fleury has a bruised back, a broken nose and is being evaluated for a concussion. Not nearly as bad as it could have been.

The Shots on Goal numbers from the Devils-Islander games

Devils: 44
Islanders: 24
Looking at the Moneypuck game summary, the Devils managed to lose 9-0 despite registering a better than 70% deserve to win rating. Markstrom is responsible for some of that, but only generating 3 expected goals on 44 shots is an issue as well, as is getting shut out with that many shots. Even if Markstrom had ended up level with expected goals allowed, they still had a strong probability of losing the game anyway … just by a much less embarrassing scoreline. That’s the kind of crap that gets people fired, benched and/or traded.

Mammoth get the 2027 Winter Classic...

Rice-Eccles should be a pretty cool setting, much in the way Carter-Finley was here.
A football stadium is always going to have better sight lines than a baseball stadium. And with the mountains in the background for a game that will probably start just after twilight? Not bad at all.

Maybe Binnington isn’t the answer for the Canes? And that was before the Blues lost 7-3 to the Blackhawks, with Binnington allowing all 7 on 35 shots. They tried to replace him but backup Joel Hofer was hiding down the hall.

Has anyone suggested that Binnington is the answer to anything other than the question “who is the most unstable goalie in the NHL?"

The Leafs radio talk today North of the Border was all hot and bothered about them moving out one of the extra goalies in Toronto. Stolarz to the Canes was the prevailing theme of the day. I would take Stolarz over Binnington if you had to pick one. He was great all of last year and has not been able to stay healthy this season.

It's that 4-yr $3.75M extension that kicks in next year... you'd have to be sure he's the one to partner with Bussi long-term.

I’m semi-surprised that Bussi hasn’t signed a longer term deal. And we still have Kochetkov for 1 more year at $2 million. Unless the brain trust thinks that’s the goalie tandem for next year…

Khazeyev is the only other goalie under contract next year although Quapp is a RFA with no arbitration rights. Primeau will be a UFA, Miftakhov will be a Group 6 UFA. He’d have to play at least 30 minutes in 28 NHL games by the end of the season to avoid that status.

That doesn't look hopeless. Italians are famous (infamous?) for pulling together and working 24/7 to get projects done.
