2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

That doesn't look hopeless. Italians are famous (infamous?) for pulling together and working 24/7 to get projects done.
Someone posted a closeup of the ice surface and it looked terrible. But they still have time to tweak that, they just have to protect it from construction debris.

I’m semi-surprised that Bussi hasn’t signed a longer term deal. And we still have Kochetkov for 1 more year at $2 million. Unless the brain trust thinks that’s the goalie tandem for next year…

Khazeyev is the only other goalie under contract next year although Quapp is a RFA with no arbitration rights. Primeau will be a UFA, Miftakhov will be a Group 6 UFA. He’d have to play at least 30 minutes in 28 NHL games by the end of the season to avoid that status.
Busi probably isn’t pushing the issue because he’s got to be thinking that Carolina will want a more veteran option at some point, which means they’re only gonna offer him backup money. If he bets on himself and has a full season at this pace, then he’s going to be able to get starter money from somebody this summer.

That’s the biggest issue once the ice sheet is installed and stable. And honestly, if they’ve got that and a dried in building then screw it … they can play without fans if they have to. Or with a reduced capacity.

The Leafs radio talk today North of the Border was all hot and bothered about them moving out one of the extra goalies in Toronto. Stolarz to the Canes was the prevailing theme of the day. I would take Stolarz over Binnington if you had to pick one. He was great all of last year and has not been able to stay healthy this season.
Of course you’d take Stolarz over Bennington. Bennington is a giant pain in the ass who is only reliable in the sense that he’s reliably inconsistent. Oh, and that he’s prone to losing his freaking mind and assaulting an opponent at least once a year. The only knock on Stolarz is that he’s injury prone, and that’s less of a problem with Carolina’s setup.

What could possibly go wrong
At least all the games will be fun to watch to see what calamity will occur during each match. Will Aho fall into a sink hole? Maybe the jumbo tron will smash an official? The Zamboni will get 4 flats and catch fire in between periods. Must see TV

It will be Fear Factor - Olympic edition

Tonya Harding and Jeff Giloolly might be back at the figure skating venue for old times sake…

You can offer Nikishin for another D-man like Quinn because it's D for D. 2 C is another world. Do we want Nystrom instead of Nikishin? I don't think yet, although he's done a nice job for a rookie.

Replacing D with another good dman is a heeluva lot easier than finding a 2C in this league. Hell we have decent depth in the origination and can withstand the loss of Nikishin for a legit, good NHL 2C. There’s only 2 or 3 guys that are untouchable on this roster if it means a really good 2C.

So Nikishin was offered in the Hughes trade. What can we get for him? 2 center in mind.

Not sure what people think the Canes are going to cook up for a 2C trade this season. Have you looked at what other teams are playing at center on their second scoring lines? Because … ugh. And do you spend the price it would take to get one of the two or three legit options? I’ve seen a lot of idle speculation about “just trade for Trochek. The Rangers are out of it.” And yeah, the Rangers are basically dead meat, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to trade a rare commodity to a division rival on the cheap. There are no fire sales unless players have terrible contracts, and Vinnie’s isn’t all that bad. Speaking of bad contracts, I guess Carolina might think about including Nikishin in a deal for Pettersson in Vancouver but I’m 90% sure that the denizens of this board would consider marching on Edwards Mill Rd if they did something like that.

The trade board is so bad that freaking Kotkaniemi was included in the list in the latest “top 15 options at the deadline” I read. The legit center options included O’Reilly, Kadri and Schmaltz. Oooo. Very exciting. I honestly don’t think Vancouver is going to be able to move Pettersson’s contract and I once again doubt that St Louis’ front office is serious about moving Robert Thomas. Other than Trocheck, those are the only two guys who really make the Canes better … and yes, despite how everybody views Elias Pettersson, if he’s on the Canes then they’d be better (pending what it cost to get him).
