2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Me too. Pasta is super but I feel Geekie is gonna regress to the mean. To a man, I believe Ottawa’s lineup just has more umph.
Which mean will Geeke regress to? He has 71 goals in the last 2 seasons. If he was going to regress to his pre-Bruins mean, that probably would have happened already.

No, the man has been very open and frank that the demons are a daily battle and the season overall has been his most challenging ever. Sad actually to read about his struggles in his very candid interviews he has granted recently. I think a week ago he told the team he was not fit to play or start on a specific day based on his mental health.
I hope that one day he can find a calmer mental health. I see my kid struggle with it daily and there's only so much we on the outside can do for them.

Geekie slowed down quite a bit in the second half of the season until he erupted against the Canes the other night.

Geekie's first 41 Games of the season: 25 Goals 16 Assists -5
Geekie's '2nd half' 39 Games 13 Goals 13 Assists -1

You can probably guess as to what might have caused that:

Geekie's first 41 Games 98 shots 25.5 Shot%
Geekie '2nd half' 39 Games 81 Shots 16.0 Shot%

He's sporting a 21.2% Shooting percentage for the year. That might seem 'unsustainable', but his shot% last season was 22.0%. Having Pastrnak taking attention away from you while feeding you elite passes in high danger areas will help any player's shooting percentage. Pastrnak has transformed himself from elite sniper to elite playmaker.

Pastrnak is going to miss the 40 goal mark for the first time since 2017-18 excluding the 56 game Covid season. His 70 assists are a career high and tied for 5th in the league.

Jonathan Quick has stated tonight will be his final NHL game.
He passed Ryan Miller a few years go for most wins by an American goalie, if he wins tonight, it will be 411. If he stays healthy, Hellebuyck should pass him in 2027-28 if Winnipeg rebounds, otherwise it will take be into the 2028-29 season. Hellebuyck only has 23 wins this seasons, he’ll need 56 or 57 to pass Quick. The next closest active goalie is John Gibson at 233, followed by Jake Oettinger with 183.

Anaheim makes the playoffs for the first time in 8 years. The Pacific is still up for grabs, with Vegas at 91 and 2 games left, Edmonton also at 91 with 1 game left, Anaheim at 90 with 2 left, LA at 89 with 2 left.

Also, the 16 playoff teams are now set; everyone else has been officially eliminated. The only issues to resolve are seeding and the aforementioned Pacific division title.

I really like that Montreal-Tampa round one series with the Marty St.Louis angle to season things up even more...tons of skill on both sides and one really solid team from the East will be sent packing when it's over. Same for the Minnesota-Dallas tilt in round one, another really good solid contender will be bounced in this one.

Buffalo Season ticket holders haven't had a chance to cash in on selling their playoff tickets in a very very long time. I can't blame them for trying to maximize their profits. The question will be 'is there a market for tickets at those price points?' I suspect that those prices will tumble...

At this point, Pasta is probably the second best pure setup guy in the league after Kucherov. Wild that they’re both wingers

Bowness rips jackets

"Just look at the stat sheet: Three hits, 23 giveaways. I don't know if I'm back, but if I'm back, I'm changing this culture. These guys, they don't care. Losing is not important enough to them. It doesn't bother them. How can you go out and play like that?" Bowness said.

"Because it got tough. Because it got hard. Like we talked about after the Olympic break: It's going to get harder. So everything's good as long as it's going their way. And now it gets tough and we don't want to battle back," he said. "We're going to change that. Some of those guys are so lucky the season's over and there's no practice tomorrow."

"The players were told tonight: If I'm back, we're changing this freaking culture," he said.

Sounded similar to his rant when he was Winnipeg's coach?

I don't think he is wrong, but they were playing a game last night that meant nothing to them or the team they were playing (other than the Ovechkin situation). Similar to what the Islanders did last night, there is no reason to go running around trying to drive players through the boards in that situation. Welcome to the age of making 'business decisions' when playing out the string.

As for the losing that took them out of the playoff race, well, they are not a very deep team and it finally caught up to them. I'm not sure what Mason Marchment's UFA plans are, but losing him is going to open up another hole in their lineup. He was a big reason they were able to get back into the race.

They also have to deal with Charlie Coyle and Jet Greaves, who is a RFA with arbitration rights (will anyone offer sheet him?). But they should have plenty of cap space.

I mean, that team sucks when they play soft … mostly because that roster is built to play with a physical edge. Otherwise, it’s just basic first line driven stuff like half the league, with a sprinkling of whatever Werenski can get done on a given night. I didn’t watch them enough to know if their skid was because they lost their edge, but I wasn’t impressed with the effort level in the two games they played against Carolina down the stretch. If he’s talking about THAT, then yeah … I get it.

And in those 2 games, their playoff hopes were very much alive. But they were outscored 10-3 (including an empty netter) and outhit 42-36.
