2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

I think there’s 2 or 3 in NC … but that info probably comes from a couple of years ago. Kurtzie would probably know better than me, but I recall a different station hits Charlotte and there is another one along the coast.

The Canes website says “The Hurricanes Radio Network also includes 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte, ESPN New Bern (107.5 FM / 1490 AM) and ESPN Greenville(107.5 FM / 1570 AM).”

730 The Game conflicts with clear channel signals in Canada and Mexico so its power is reduced from 10,000 watts during the day to 190 watts at night. The New Bern station has 1,000 watts and ESPN Greenville is also downgraded at night from 8,000 to 200 watts. So none of those stations have a very far reach.

Which doesn’t matter really, because nobody/not many people are listening to the over the air radio feed anyway. In this context, it’s just where you’d get directly if you’re listening to an audio only feed through the Canes website. More than likely there will be a button right below it to click to watch live. Either way, it’s the same commentary since it’s a simulcast.

In the old days, I’ve been glad of that dinky New Bern station because the signal out of Raleigh always faded out about time you hit the eastern edge of the badlands between Kinston and New Bern when I was driving to and from the beach for Thanksgiving. It only lasted a bit, but it was usually enough to get through the game.

My former boss/partner used to tune into the Pack in the early 70s on PTF when he lived in the Bahamas.
 
The Pens placed a big bet on Ville Koivunen. He was a RFA without arbitration rights, the Pens singed him, 8 years/$4 million AAV. He’s been a point per game player in the AHL but only has 2 goals, 12 assists in 47 NHL games. The contract buys 4 UFA years. The first 2 years‘ salary is the NHL minimum with a $2 million signing bonus each year. The next 6 years are all salary, ranging from. $4.25 million to $4.5 million.

Wow. Good on Koivunen for jumping at a chance to secure life altering money.

I don't know why the Pens insist on singeing their players as part of a contract signing, but hopefully that didn't hurt too much and doesn't leave a big noticeable scar. 😜
 
Interesting. Pittsburgh looked like they had lost faith in Koivunen late the season when they had some opportunities to work him into the mix late but seemed to think he was just a 4th liner. That’s not the deal I was expecting him to get from them. Good on him.
 
Looks like they completed the work to redefine the aisles in the lower bowl sideline sections.

One question I have now that I have seen this picture. The new seats that are going where those 2 corner tunnels are at the North End (where the Buffalo Brothers Zone is). Are those going to be 'removeable seats' with metal bleacher flooring or are they really going to close off those tunnels? These are the new seats in Sec 106 and 113 of the 'New seating chart'

The tunnel at the bottom of new 113 is where the referees enter the ice. The tunnel across the ice is the “fan tunnel” where the team comes out for each period. The last time I did that, it’s also where Hanna and Shane hung out.

Looks like they are closing them off per the graphic.....officials dressing room might have been moved and they will come out of 119 with the visitors or 126 which is the back door (coaches offices) of the canes locker room.
