2025-26 Premier League Thread

Chelsea 2-1 Spurs. So there's still a relegation battle left with Spurs on 38 points and West Ham on 36. West Ham, though, need a win and a Spurs loss, given that the difference in GD is -10 vs -22

Spurs v. Everton
West Ham v. Leeds

Neither visitor is playing for anything except pride. Everton could climb into the top half of the table with help from others. But they haven’t won a match since March 21. Leeds finished on a nice run to escape relegation, they haven’t lost in the league since March 3

Southampton were expelled from the Championship playoff final and replaced by Middlesbrough, who they defeated in the semifinals. The Saints admitted spying on other teams during training; Oxford United in December, Ipswich in April and Boro in May. Southampton have also been docked 4 points for next season.

The final is Saturday.

One more thing…by grabbing a point today, Bournemouth guaranteed a spot in the Europa League, playing European football for the first time in their history.

Bournemouth are legit good and should do well in Europa League … if they can resist the urge to screw their roster up ahead of a European campaign like most clubs.

NBC released the TV schedule for Sunday. The relegation battles get the big stations, Spurs v. Everton on NBC, West Ham v. Leeds on USA. Palace v. Arsenal is on CNBC. Liverpool v. Brentford on SyFy. Everything else is on Peacock.

Makes sense. The title is settled, as are the European spots for the most part. The intrigue is at the bottom of the table, although I’m a bit surprised they didn’t put Pep’s farewell game on big NBC.

They lost the appeal today.

Pep has been coy about it though, so I think it's true but he keeps hinting he's under contract one more season

Yeah, obviously I'm going to think very fondly on this year from the perspective of winning a trophy in such fashion and getting to enjoy the entire second half without any point getting nervous. It was an entire bar filled with the happiest people on earth screaming and singing. That memory is going to last longer than my complete lack of enjoyment of what the sport turned into this season. I do absolutely think that if the FA doesn't make some drastic changes to the laws of the game and how it's officiated (and actually hold officials accountable instead of just doing the normal thing where they call stuff differently for a month and then just go right back to doing whatever the hell they feel), next season is going to be even worse since it's a copycat league.

One more. Going to be emotional for me since Mo was one of my favorite Reds ever (top 3 I'd say). And I really loved Andy, too. Saying goodbye is never any fun.

Weirdly, I was in the Emirates when Arsenal said goodbye to Arteta as a player in 2016*. It was an emotional sendoff, but probably nothing compared to what’s coming for Saleh

*we were there to see Villa, who were busy getting relegated.
