2025 Canes Entry Draft Thread

Snuggles. I always have to laugh at that.

I think his one shining moment was a pass into the O zone vs. Jersey (???) that stopped in a puddle, and someone potted a playoff OT game winner.
I believe that was Sami Kapanen with the goal. He had to double-clutch because of the puddle.

From the I feel old file: The flames drafted Ethan Wyttenbach from Roslyn, NY. When I was in high school in the 80s I used to babysit his dad and his uncles when they were like 10 years old.

Wait...you're from Roslyn and went to high school in the 80s?! We may know a lot of people in common!

Ha! No, I’m from Dix Hills. Grandpappa Wyttenbach still lives in Dix Hills on the street where I grew up. His son (Ethan’s dad) moved to Roslyn at some point. I left the Island in ‘85 after HS.

Don’t forget, the Canes prospect camp starts tomorrow at Invisalign. All 7 drafted players drafted yesterday, including the 4 Russians are in the US and are expected to attend. A full roster hasn’t been released yet.

So the MVP of the U18 world championship got selected in the 221 spot.
I know, right? Ekberg got dinged hard due to whatever illness he had that hampered his play in the first half of the season for Ottawa, and it doesn't help that he's short. This year's draft leaned hard into size. Right now that one feels like a potential steal.

Darren Yorke gives the draft rundown. As always, the challenge will be getting the Russians here. There is no word on where Ryabkin is playing next year, whether he’s going back to Russia, playing another year in the USHL, playing in the CHL, whatever.

I saw some speculation that he was planning to stick around in North America, although nobody was forthcoming with any details. I'd prefer that, I think. Ryabkin is a kid with a lot of rough edges to grind off and I'd prefer he get down to that working in the North American game where things are a bit more structured.

I’ve seen him compared to Jack Drury. If that’s a fair comparison, you’re right, Roddy will love him.
Me too, but I think Cerrato is more of a two way center in college than Drury was. Drury was a top line ace at Harvard, but was just so positionally sound that the part of his game that translated to the NHL was the defense. Looking at his clips, he reminds me more of an Anthony Cirelli type. That said, he's mature, works hard and is detail oriented so Roddy's gonna love him regardless.

And Cirelli has been an annual Selke finalist too.

Yeah, to be clear I'm not saying this kid is a Selke-level forward ... not even in terms of projection. He just reminds me of the way Cirelli operates in his clips. Carolina will be doing well if he grows into a 4th line center who can slot up on occasion.
