2025 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

Here’s your issue, VGK, Sea & Utes are raking in $$$$. Within 3-yrs the cap will skyrocket to upwards of $115M creating significant salary inflation. Today’s $3.5M player will be making $5M in 3yrs time.

That doesn’t even take into account Houston & Atlanta WILL be awarded expansion teams within 3-yrs max.
Who gives a shit about a potential rising cap and what 3.5 means in 3 years time

Nobody has a crystal ball like who predicted a fucken pandemic taking down the world for 2 years

Habs are not winning a cup in 3 years IMO and there is a huge sample size of not having to pay bottom 6 good money and term across the league

There will be salary dumps , free agents looking for work and decent players available who wont cost you 4 years on the cap

This thread is freaking out on the future of Jake Evans a 30 point player , this is comical .

Roster in 2 years probably looks like

Caufield-Suzuki-Slaf
Demidov-Dach-Laine
Heineman-Hage-Newhook
Anderson-Evans-Gallagher
Beck/Roy/Kapenen (would jump in the lineup in place of Anderson/Gallagher if traded)

Hutson-Reinbacher
Guhle-Carrier
Xhekaj-Mailloux

Dobes/Montambault/Fowler

I don't think Slaf will stay on the first line. I just don't see the potential, his skating is average, gets rid of the puck the second it's on his stick, is not a super great stick handler, and doesn't have that vision. He's getting points because Cole is scoring. If he played 12 minutes a game, he'd probably be at 18 points.

Slaf has a good toolbox but might simply be a bad match for the MSL system. We'll see....

No one is freaking out about Evans. You made a dumb comment, own it.

Did elite level UFA's suddenly change their minds about paying taxes in Quebec? Because unless they did the Habs probably won't be able to sign any.
This was never really an issue with money managers and residency credits etc. Only an issue to the fans.

I expect a trade more than a UFA signing. Only Ekblad this summer would interest me, but his history of injuries bothers me, and I think he resigns with Florida.
But he's Weber. Injuries and all. He would make that D core very good.

Yes. You are.

A 30 point player who kills penalties at a high level is valuable

He's a defensive center with some offensive ability but not a checking center and if you don't know the difference then you likely think faceoffs aren't important as well.

I don't know what a checking centre is.

I consider a checking center to be a third line shutdown guy.

Are you saying that a checking center is more a disruptor focusing on forecheck and physical play?
